Ooops just bought an R1 too!

Following my thread bitching about the the new R6 and my inability to make a decision on what bike to purchase to replace my trusty Hornet, I've taken the plunge an found an 03 R1. (yes, yes I know I said I wanted flat bars)
I really wasn't sure about this whole sports bike lark but now I see what I've been missing. It handles so well, corners can be taken way faster and as for the straights, it's like engaging warp drive and putting all other traffic on 'pause' whilst you do your best to keep the front wheel down and not put it in a hedge
. Anyway enough of the road test cliches In short, I love it.
P.S. I was going to do Santa Pod RWYB on Sunday but my bed was just too cosy. Does anyone have any tips on launching? So far the best seems to be short shifting in first and then going for it. Will starting in second gear and slipping clutch be better or is that going to knacker things?
