New tyres... How many miles until they're "safe"...?

As the thread title. Had new front and back tyres fitted on the bike today, and I know that I need to go easy on them for a while (which shouldn't be too tricky, as I'm still managing to corner while upright...!)

What sort of mileage do I need to get on them before I stop gripping the seat into a ridge with my arse? I'm still very much relearning everything, as I passed my test last July, but didn't get the bike until about a month ago.

I'd have asked in the shop, but they weren't very friendly, and they certainly won't be getting any future custom from me.

ANd I hate riding on motorways. Still, maybe needs must.
