Just a quick question,

had a play in the chim yesterday water temp went up to around 95ish, brought car home and checked oil and water found the expansion bottle still cold, i could unscrew the top and dip my finger in the coolant was freezing cold, both hoses on the rad vey hot so too was the swirl pot, tried to take the brass screw off the pot when cool and cannot budge it is this normal?

just had a play with the car, taken the expansion cap off and run the car up to temp fans cut in, didnt make any diffrence no bubbles or heat from the bottle at all is this correct i was expecting the water to bubble up

dont think the water level moved at all, im thinking its blocked too

the pipe is blocked, think i have a job to do tonight, so how much water should be in the swirl pot when i manage to remove the brass bolt, full to the brim or just under?

thanks Guys, all sorted took the car out yesterday before the rain and didnt get the temp above 85

Rob, did you checke whether the tube at the bottom of the expansion tank was blocked? Mine was and I had to run a drill bit through the corrosion to clear it. Definitely worth checking and easy to do by removing the hose from the bottom amd see if the coolant runs out. Mine didn't!
yeah checked, mine was blocked both ends expansion and swirl pot, i used a small screwdriver and a hammer !! job done
