Hi Chaps,

Just taken trev out for a blast and I seem to have no temp, oil sensors and rev counter. The speedo just about gets to 20mph although driving faster. Fans work fine. Pulled over to make sure no loose fuses -all seem ok.

Any ideas?

I did over heat last week which vented from expansion tank if that could be linked?

Other than the car drives lovely.

I’d welcome any pointers!

😃 good advice Tyre Smoke! Thanks. I will have a good look with fuses. And checks earthing. Do you know what earth is responsible for the Dash?

The gauges use fuse 16 and are earthed at the chassis fixing bolt on the offside tunnel top.

It is not easy to get at this bolt unless someone has been in there before. The tunnel top just at the bottom of the dash has a ridge along the top of the footwell side wall. this ridge is fibreglass and covered in carpet but there is a gap in the GF ridge just where the bolt head is so to get at the bolt you will have to make a cut in the carpet (which someone before you may have done). If you cannot find an existing slit in the carpet then you will need start at a point just below the bottom of the dash face an start pressing against the carpet towards the top of the ridge. Work you way forward until you can feel the gap in the GF (about 2" wide) behind the carpet. Next find how low that gap extends and slit the carpet. You can then poke your finger in and find the bolt head. Use a 17mm spanner to tighten the bolt. You do not want to think about cleaning the earth terminals as just getting at the bolt head is bad enough.

Below is a picture of the tunnel top with the gap circled in red. You can gauge from the front face of the radio housing how far forwards the gap is.

Thanks steve! I built the car so I know it well, I did recarpet over it so I will have a good look tomorrow and try and clean these up. I’m confident I did clean and fully secure all earthing points, but will certainly look at it.

I also noticed the radio panel lights just about the “three buttons” flickering too if that adds to your theory?

To be honest, it looks like it could do with something a bit more substantial - so will replace in coming weeks. My top dash is only held by the one bolt on far side then heavy duty Velcro - so easy enough to take off and get to.

Thanks for all your help guys - made for a nice afternoon cruising around Northamptonshire!! smile
