Right, always used Mobil 1 like a good feller all through the ownership of my 4L but am considering using something else. For instance both GM's own fully synthetic 5w-40w and (don't laugh) Skoda's Synta fully synthetic 5w-40w both match or exceed the spec for Mobil 1 but cost around £16 for 5 litres.

Before anyone derides the Skoda stuff, I would hasten to point out that it maufactured for Volkswagen Audi Group and is sold in all their garages and fitted to their performance models. Strangely it's cheaper at Skoda dealers than VAG/Seat dealers.

Anyone got an opinion?

As I suspect, everyone uses everything. I am of the opinion that it's a waste of money paying the 'premium' for Mobil 1.
