Hi Folk. I normally post on the TVR Classics forum so excuse me for hijacking your space. However my wife owns a lovely 1964 'B'. Very original, OEW, 3 bearing etc etc.

I think the starter is shorting out. The starter solenoid button turns the engine at a constant but very slow speed whilst making a fast clicking noise. There are also sparks flying from the water temp wire (wire with the metal spring outer) to the body and at one point where it touches the metal fixing it's instantly glows red during cranking.

If my diagnosis is correct the starter needs to be removed and repaired. Sounds easy until I tried. It appears to have more room to come out from underneath, which I tried, but it hits the steering column 2 inches before clearing the bell housing hole. Reading the Haynes manual it states that it has to come out the top after removing the dizzy & oil filter. However I can't see this working as it will still hit the steering column. Googling stuff, there is very little on these early inertia starters and where there is I think they're USA forums where the steering column will be on the other side and not an issue.

Has anyone here been through this process and learnt how it needs to be approached.

Thanks
