MGB supercharging

Hello all,

I am thinking of buying an MGB GT with the intention of supercharging it. From doing a quick bit of googling and 'research' I've found that the kits are ~£4,000 - roughly my budget for the car itself. MOSS being the most promoted company. Is there anyone out there that knows of cheaper/second-hand kits, if so where could I find them and are they worth it?

My budget is fairly tight, being a student, so any help or information in light of this would be very appreciated.

If you're on a tight budget, playing with the engine to make it more powerful is probably a dangerous idea. Engines eat money when you start fiddling with them. Plus you then have to look at suspension, brakes etc. Oh, and the unexpected rust of course.
I NA tuned mine (new cam, big valve head, exhaust, bigger carbs) which made a decent difference, but even that was a few thousand all told. So practically, I'd say, don't even consider it. Stick with it how it is, or buy an MX5 if you want to go faster.

But if someone had told me that in my youth, I'd have ignored it and bodged something together on a shoestring and had a lovely time doing it.

You do make a very arguable point. I got stuck on the idea of how cool saying; "I've got an old classic that I've supercharged myself" started to sound in my head. So much so it got to the point where taking the process beyond obtaining the car and the supercharger wasn't in sight.

Still looking around, at the moment. Insurance on a lot of vehicles is still rather high and somewhat 'unpredictable'. Currently, I think my eyes are bigger than my wallet.

An interesting read, I hadn't seen a BMW supercharger being used in any posts/blogs before.
