Advice Re: Whining Noise
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm after some advice / similar experiences please.
My 4ltr XJ40 sovereign was serviced about 8 weeks ago and has since covered around 750 miles. For the last three weeks I have been hearing a constant whining noise coming from the rear of the car. It appears to get louder with the speed of the car rather than the engine so I'm confident it's not connected to the gearbox but am worried it could be the diff.
The car passed an MOT 2 weeks ago without any problems, but the tester did point out a little play in the rear wheel bearings... could this be causing it? We did spend quite a while making sure that the play was not in the driveshafts.
So has anybody had a similar problem or any suggestions of what it could be before I take it to the garage? Also, do you think the problem should have been spotted by the garage at the service?
Any help appreciated,
Iain
