I had to have a new gearbox fitted to my S type in February 2003.

The car was on 58,000 miles and was covered by the manufacturers warranty.

Then 14 months later a seal went on the gearbox and the labour was covered by Jaguar.

Now 4 months on and 18 months since the new gearbox was fitted it has gone again. The car has done 42,000 on the "2nd" gearbox. In total just over 100,000 miles.

Now i have to have a third gearbox fitted. The car was newly registered in November 2000. It's less than 4 years old and about to go onto it's 3rd gearbox.

This time Jaguar will not cover the cost. they say legally they are under no obligation becuase all waranties have expired. They will though as a matter of goodwill pay for half the parts and labour. I'm still left with a bill of around £1600.00 inc VAT.

My question is. Is this fair? Are Jaguar being fair or should they be responsible for the 3rd gearbox. It's not a good advert for a car that less than 4 years old having done 100,000 miles to be starting it's 3rd gearbox.

Should I be grateful that they are at least paying for half of the cost?

I'm a first time poster on here so I'd appreciate your thoughts and advice.
