I'm buying a Jag...but which one?
Discussion
I've decided to buy a Jagwarrrr. The TVR is staying, so it doesn't have to be mega quick - but lively would be nice. It will be for a short daily commute.
But I'm in two or three minds:
An S-Type Sport 3.0V6
An S-Type 4.0V8
An X-Type Sport 3.0V6
An X-Type Sport 2.5V6
The X-Type is 4WD, the S-Type RWD.
Any opinions? Who's driven or been in some, or knows of other's experiences?

X-type is a ford Mondeo..
The porsche 356 was a VW Beetle in a rather tasty bodyshell, look what that became...
btw- Alex, 4.0 S type (or XK8/R)
It needs to be four door, so that rules out the XK8.
The XJR is very nice - but I don't really want the running costs (especially insurance). I think I'm probably going to rule out the V8 S-Type, as again, I don't really think I'd feel the benefit on a five mile commute, and besides, anything feels slow compared to the TVR anyhow...
I want it to be relaxing and comfortable, with just enough kick to make it a little interesting. So I'm almost certainly going to have an Auto sport box version.
Some excellent thoughts here guys, and thanks for the deatil Simpo.
I am always puzzled as to why people seem to think that the fact the X-Type uses a Mondeo chassis is somehow "dirty"...lol.
The Mondeo has a very fine chassis as far as I am aware.
I think the choice will come down to between an S-Type 3.0 Sport, and an X-Type 3.0 Sport.
(I wonder how much difference there is between the 2.5 and 3.0 X-Type?)

As I'm sure you know, 'Sport' doesn't make it go any faster; it's just an appearance thing. If you want toys, go for the SE. The 4.0 is not massively faster than the 3.0: but then for hooning I get the TVR out
Mine's a 2001 'X' reg in Pacific blue with ivory leather, satnav, voice activation, auto lights, auto wipers and gorgeous 18" BBS Monaco split rim alloys that look so good it's actually worth sacrificing the ride!! Oh yep, and all for £8,370
I think it might be time to head for your nearest dealer and get a test drive.....
I get my TVR out when I want a hoon too...lol.
Where on earth did you get that for that money?? What mileage?
The Sport versions do have a different suspension set-up though and a couple of other driving aids I think..

Thanks for the advice.
I just bought an S-Type 3.0 SE in Pacific Metallic Blue, Ivory White Leather, SatNav, Electric roof, Wood Kit, Comms system etc, Traction control and sport modes.
29k miles and full JSH.
So far so good - and it really is a lovely thing. SO much more sense of occasion when you get in and drive than a BMW or Audi, and the total opposite to my TVR Chimera450 which remains as my
Cheers - see you around.
