Having recently shortened my XF by about a foot I'm now the Captain of a splendid 2006 XK 4.2. Unfortunately the satnav DVD is the original, so well out of date. The good news is that before the XF departed I managed to salvage its satnav DVD, a 2014 disk. Aha, I thought, I'll put that in the XK and enjoy 2014 satnav loveliness.

Not quite. Loading the 2014 disk brings up a message on the display that says:
'New disc requires an auto Software update.
Current software: v0592
New software: v0BB0
Duration = 15 minutes.
Eject DVD immediately to stop the update.'

How on earth can a DVD update, even if the car was connected to the net? Afterwards, the 'Navigation' button didn't do anything, but after leaving it overnight and putting the old DVD back it was back to 2006.

Can I do anything to get a 2014 disk working in a 2006 car please?

Thanks 8bit, that gives me the confidence to give it a go. I was talking to an IT friend yesterday and he thought the same. I felt there was a chance that if it didn't 'install' properly - there being an 8 year gap between versions - it might break the thing completely.

Good news, but you do realise that 2014 is still "well out of date"...?

I'm no radio expert but susepct DAB stations have much smaller range due to higher frequency. FM rules!
