F Type Convertible, V6 or V8
Discussion
Apologies in advance for a question that must have been asked a hundred times before, I did have a quick look via the search function, but found nothing that helped me.
So thinking of getting rid of the Tamora and getting a Jag convertible, budget up to £35k which surprisingly would get me a V8, seems a lot of car for the money, or is it low for a reason, happy to consider the V6 or even an XKR which also looks good value.
Thanks in advance

Depends what you like in a car. I've got a 5.0 XKR coupe and not driven an F-type but the XKR is very good VFM in my view. Possibly a little more refined than a V8 F-type and not as nimble as a V6 F-type but worth checking out. Your budget would get you a pretty low-mileage one towards the end of the model lifetime. Do test drive a couple of those as well as F-types.
Well I’ve had the Tamora 9 years, arguably the best handling TVR, 360bhp at 1150kg so nippy, but quite raw, de-catted so in excess of 130dB, masses of pops, bangs and flames, gets lots of attention and it’s for those reasons the wife won’t go in it, SVR is obviously out of my budget, but I do like the sound of that carcerb4.5lee said:
You can get the V6 with a three pedal manual whereas the V8 is auto only. Don't know if that makes any difference to you?
The F-Type is a lovely looking thing I reckon.
How you doing Lee, yes it's a looker alright, will be test driving a few at the end of the "TVR season"The F-Type is a lovely looking thing I reckon.

I've been to a couple of the East Midlands TVR meets recently and my love for TVR is still very strong!
Wishing you all the best with the car search going forward.

Thanks for the heads up, good little article, confirms that my budget should get me what I want as long as the Tam sells of coursePhil. said:
Op - I’ve run a couple of 4.5 remapped and decatted 400BHP Cerbera’s and driven a Tamora for a couple of days. I’ve also owned two V8S F-Types, having sold the last one a couple of weeks ago.
The V8S provides all the pops and bangs of a decatted Cerbera but with some modern safety aids and the ability to switch down the noise when required. To do this thought you MUST get one with the switchable exhaust. The sports and dynamic settings allow you change the ride and drive train from comfortable cruiser to an aggressive fun sports car to suit your mood and the roads. Compared to how basic the TVR is you will love how modern the Jag is in comparison.
Beware the different specs. Sports seats and switchable exhaust are a must. A flat bottomed sports steering wheel is a nice to have. Rear cameras are available but I never used mine. Just check the detailed spec.
Oh, and don’t buy the V6, you will always regret it
Thanks for the info, oddly enough I’ve enjoyed the Speed 6 more than the AJP V8 I had in the Cerb and it certainly pops and bangs more, but it’s clear that it needs to be a V8 Jag to get anything like the same levels of noise................probably makes me seem a bit shallow, but I guess 10 years of TVR ownership makes you become a bit obsessed with this sort of thingThe V8S provides all the pops and bangs of a decatted Cerbera but with some modern safety aids and the ability to switch down the noise when required. Drove the 6 and the 8 for about a week each. Lots of people seem to prefer the 6 which I understand but the V8 just sounded so damn good that I would have chosen it.
As a TVR owner, I’ll need the aural excitement so really hoping to get a V8, the Tam will be in the classifieds next week, so interested to see how long it takes to sell as there are a hell of a lot of TVRs for sale at presentcerb4.5lee said:
Wishing you all the best with the sale Bob.
Looking forward to seeing how things pan out for you, but I appreciate that it must be a big deal for you moving on from the TVR.
Hi Lee, keep an eye out for the advert, I think the closing paragraph will sum it up pretty well, hopefully it will reflect the love we have for these carsLooking forward to seeing how things pan out for you, but I appreciate that it must be a big deal for you moving on from the TVR.
