Hello my new Jaguar friends!

I pick up a car tomorrow, an XK 4.2 NA. The car only has 13,000 miles, and only driven 500 miles in 2 years. It's been to Jaguar for a service every year, same month, since new and I have it booked into Jaguar next month. It's been garaged all its life, I spoke with the servicing dealer who knew the car and suggested it had an easy life.

My question is, with relatively few miles and with my drive home form the dealer being almost as long as the previous chaps annual mileage, should I just drive it, enjoy or do long stood cars suffer in any way?
It has had a dealer inspection and new MOT.

Hello chaps, thank you for the replys. I collected the car today, absolutely fine. It drives so well, no weird noises or vibrations, pulls and stops beautifully. Im sure a few hundred miles will do it a world of good! Jaguar service booked in July.

Yes, I need to check the tyre dates, how old is too old, 5 years plus?

That's lovely!

I think it's around 7 years or so, but if there's any tiny cracks and deterioration get them changed sooner.
Thank you,
I checked the tyres, week number, irrelevant but the year.... 2008,all 4. So 12 year old tyres, I thought they were a bit noisy...

Any recommendations, stick with oe Dunlop or something else? I guess technological has moved on a bit in 12 years, most branded names should be good. Michelin, Dunlop, etc.
Just passed an mot too, is tyre age just a recommendation?

Agreed x2. But then I would smile

Colour is a funny thing with XK/Rs. I usually find grey cars very boring, but in the XK it works really well, and other colours that you'd expect to look good somehow fall short. Must be the shape.
Thank you! The colour is a beautiful metallic ultra violet grey, I agree, the colour exenuates the shape of the car. Right, must search tyres...

I've just - after some research - had Goodyear F1's on the front: https://tinyurl.com/yarb38ra As I'm not Lewis Hamilton I can't tell the difference anyway! But they have rim protection which is handy because those Carelia alloys seem to be kerb magnets...
It might not be question for here but I might ask the dealer to help with the cost of changing, it seems a little poor to sell a car with 12 year old tyres. Especially when, in the video, he made a big deal of the tyres saying how much tread was on them, I'll email him.

Thank you for your recommendation, I found a set of Continental Sport contact 6 at a local dealer, booked in next week.

I also want the change the car battery, its the original at 12 years old, just to be safe.

I'm guessing it's an 019 type, and I don't need the vented type, sealed will do?

That should be all that I need to do...

Edit, just orded this, Varta Silver Dynamic H3 Car Battery. Good, all done.
I'll compose an email to the dealer regarding help with the tyre cost, although I'm sure they perhaps wont help. This thread may help others to check the age of tyres, usually not done, just a tread check, and help with the negotiation.

I put the tyres on, much better, quieter and plush. The new battery makes the car turn over on start much quicker, pleased I changed it. Spent 12 hours machine polishing and ceramic coating to remove the car wash swirls, what a difference. Shiny new plates arrived too.
