I started looking at F-types 2-3 months ago when a r AWD 2015/2016 were being listed for 42k ish and some even less. Now....45K and upwards. I am aware of all the issues with micro chips and new cars not being available pushing used car prices up but feck. I imagine this will go on for 12 months then prices will drop again when new car production picks up. Timing is pants for me and has shafted my plans for my next toy car.

Also, to compound this, dealers are joining forums as king for private sale cars and hoovering up private sale cars from autotrader and the like.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Not quite in the same boat, but as a V6S owner, the price of my dream SVR is now definitely out of reach as my next car. There were a few advertised at around £56k over the winter, now the cheapest is £65k.

BMW Z4 M40i have done the same. Cheapest cars at the tale end of last year were £33k/£34k, now lucky to get one below £40k.

Hopefully prices will return back to normal next year. Smart thing would be to sell now and wait, but that's a gamble.
I don’t have a car to sell but I don’t want to buy at the peak now while markets appear to be artificially inflated and take a bath in the next 12 months.

This is sensible. Unless you were in it to flip it quick, I can't help but think prices will head south fast as soon as the supply issues start to ease in 12-18 months time. You'd certainly be paying a premium right now.
I will be but sadly I also need a second car for school runs. I may have to buy something else. The timing is pretty pants!

I have posted on several FB groups and a jag ftype forum stating I am looking for a private sale. Fingers crossed because dealer prices are insane!

I’ve been looking since last September, cheapest V8R convertible was £39k, now the cheapest I can find is £45k, I see this repeated with the Coupe. What’s really surprising for me at present is the prices of V8S, several at over £40k, these were sub £35k just before Xmas...............I’ll be waiting (and saving).
Indeed. I would be too if I didn’t need to buy in the next 3 months. Buying a cheaper car and losing money on that or hoping it’s not got issues I have to spend out on doesn’t seem like a great idea.

Honestly, as a former XFR-S and TVR Cerbera 4.5 owner, just keep the V6S. It's the better car unless pub bragging rights is all you want. The supercharged V8 is a nice engine but is frustratingly powerful. If you value your license the opportunities to stretch its legs are irritatingly few, and even trying to hear it above 3000rpm requires manual intervention which is fine except there's so much torque available that there's always this nagging feeling that the automatic gearbox does better without your interference and that you're just driving like a dick.

It's difficult to put the finger on, but I simply didn't gel with the V8 F-Type. I wanted it to be much more involving and fun than it turned out to be. It was like someone took my Cerbera and engineered all the requirement for me to be involved out of it.

Honestly I think the V6S is the pick of the bunch, and dare I say it more sportscar sounding also?
Interesting points. I think with the v6s it’s that bit harder to find one with the spec whereas the v8 has more as standard. I’d be happy with a v6s with a tune running 415bhp.

Thats an interesting point of view Jamie and as a former Cerbera owner myself its a comparison I often think of when I drive my V8 R especially how raucous they both are under acceleration . You are totally correct about the danger of losing a Driving License , in fact often when I get home I wonder if I have inadvertently triggered a Camera , illegal speeds come up very quickly and sometimes it doesnt even feel as if you are travelling that quickly , totally different from driving the Cerbera .
Personally when it comes to deciding which Model I think its always the V8 R , there is nothing worse than buying something smaller and then wondering
about the one you didn't buy , after all nobody buys a V8 and wonders about a V6 its always the other way around .
Interesting, I had a 4.5 Cerb for 15 years, bought a V6S F-Type Coupe and although it was a great car not as many smiles-per-mile as the Cerb, so now have a 5-litre Supercharged V8 XKR Coupe, with 510 BHP now that is fun....
I could buy the V6 but would then want to tune it and add a smaller supercharger pully and that costs £2k. It would still be 100bhp less than the V8. Although the v6 sounds good the v8 is an incredible sounding car. I would always with I had waited for a V8. That is what I will be doing.

If you've got a car to trade or sell as part of the deal then the issue shouldn't really be there, as you'll get more for yours so the cost to change won't be too far away from where it was, I've been looking at F-types and they are priced at 4-5k more than I thought however my car is getting bids from WBAC for 3k more than I paid for it in March...so it's swings and roundabouts.

Redline have a nice sport 400 conv and a 380S coupe at the moment, but they look like V8 money to me but that's where the market is I guess.

A jag dealer has had the same v8 r RWD up for a month and the price has risen 2.5k. Still hasn’t sold. Patience will be key given the current price madness.

Not sure if it’s the same car, but I looked at the one in York, gone up a couple of £k recently, it was an okay car, but 5 owners put me off a bit!
That’s the one.

I am not part exchanging anything so in real terms the cars would cost me 4K more now than 3 ish months ago. I don’t want to take a 4K bath in 6 months (who knows the time frame I am speculating) when new cars are being pushed out as normal. I will be holding off as long as possible and monitoring prices. If it means I miss this summer then hey, not what I wanted but such is life.

Yep, reluctantly that’s where I’m at, they have definitely risen sharply since the turn of the year, I certainly recall a black V8 R convertible for sale at a garage called Titty Ho (insert child-like snigger smiley) and I’m sure it went as low as £38k before it sold
Yup, 15 plate awd cars were up at 40-41k. They are now 45-46k.

Browsing the Forecourt I came across this last night in Milton Keynes , it was starting to get dusky and obviously the place was closed so I cant vouch for the cars overall condition . I make it an early AWD version with the older Info Screen and I think White is a strange colour for an F Type , I am always wary of the chrome ( plastic ) window surrounds as in my experience they do discolour over time , my X150 went an awful chalky white like a Bathroom Scum effect . You are then left with the options of replace with more of the same tat at an extortionate price or wrap them instead .

It’s a nice car but agree it would need black pack and is 10k over my budget.

Just resurrecting this thread... I've handed back my BMW 440I and am now looking at an F Type. Loved the six cylinder and zf8 gearbox so the v6s jag fits me right.

Is there an "ideal" spec I should be looking for. What's a must have?

Also, if its a 14/15 plate, is the infotainment that bad? Coming from idrive most things won't feel great but I'm worried it's a total waste? I really just need DAB and Bluetooth but a map that works would help. I assume it doesn't have android auto or apple carplay?

I'm in no rush, probably a Xmas purchase and also depends on prices with the current madness but up to 40k sticker price feels right for my budget.

Thanks!
I have decided (I think) to go back to looking for a m2 comp as that was my original choice and I have a nipper.

When I was looking I wanted,
- pano roof.
- performance seats with good adjustability! Some come with very little adjustability.
- parking sensors at the rear.
- 20 inches wheels as the 19’s look a bit poop.
- black pack for me was a must as I hare chrome.
- it had to be the ‘s’ variant.

At 40k I would be looking at a 2016 model. I have heard the infotainment and reverse camera quality are appalling so go in with low expectations. Also, the sound system is pants by all accounts. Make sure the steel support struts under the car are not corroded and the dif is not leaking.
