More Jags at Browns Lane

X150 will be built in Coventry

Unions today welcomed the decision by Jaguar to build their new luxury model, the X150, at Browns Lane in Coventry. John Greenwell, CEO and Chairman of Jaguar and Landrover, told union representatives today that the decision had been taken after the success of the launch of the XJ Saloon, the continued high quality of XJ and XK and the continued commitment of the Browns Lane workforce to the Jaguar brand.

Duncan Simpson, Amicus National Officer for the car industry, said: "There will be celebrating at Brown's Lane tonight. The decision is excellent news, the workforce has been operating under a cloud for too long and we hope this is the start of continued investment and new models to secure the future for the site ."

So what do you reckon, Ford will go and shut down Solihull instead and move the all new Disco and baby Range Rover to one of the other Jag plants ? The unions decision to call another 1 day stoppage at Solihull probably will help decision. But then having the X150 (or new XK) with the same aluminium body technology as XJ in the same place does makes sense as well.
