What's the difference between Mk1 and Mk2 Golf Plus?

My father is looking for a Golf Plus and I'm trying to work out the idfference between the mk1 and mk2 models - is it just the common rail diesels?

Thinking of a 2.0 TDI SE - any horror stories / thinks to look out for?

Want a sensible car but finding that the seats on your existing Golf are a little too low for you nowadays........ buy a Golf Plus.
