High Mileage V10
Discussion
Anyone any experience or knowledge on high mileage V10's? Car in question is s6.
Car has done in excess of 150k, but has FULL Audi history, and recently had all lamda sensors done and new inlet manifold.
Car is priced to suit mileage, and I accept that at these miles resale and wear and tear could be issues.
Always fancied an s8 but can't justify the price when I do around 50 miles a week!

a simple rear resonator delete will do quite a bit too - usually around 200 quid to take out the back resonators and put in a simple set of straight sections (or a h-pipe if you are feeling flush)

not quite milltek awesomeness but not bad either!
Sounds good to me! A Milltek would be a big chunk of the purchase price, so at £200ish, I'd be doing that I reckon.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbHcuPYCwb8

Mines had full audi service history, new tyres and pads and discs all round before I bought it.
Servicing is cheap even at main dealers. They have fixed prices servicing for cars older than 3 years. Minor is £189. Major is £365 and that includes two air filters and ten platinum spark plugs. Bargain!
It's a big lazy old v10 lump, no turbos, no dpf. Get it bought.

Will get some tomorrow, ultimate q car, a silver a6 saloon.
Only drove it 20 minutes home, needs something doing on exhaust, resonator delete or back box, or both, who knows, not spending Milltek money that's for sure. Will take it to a specialist tomorrow to get a price.
Need to get it on VCDS as bluetooth not functioning, other than that, happy to report all ok so far.
The advert was poor, and there's a few bits it has that I was unaware of, DAB radio, TV, dimming external mirrors, memory seats, electric steering column, nice!

Just been to see a local exhaust specialist, he said resonator delete would be ok, but wouldn't give that deep rumble.
He recommended backboxes only at a cost of £280.
Seemed confident that would do the job.
I did ask about resonator delete as well as backboxes but he said that would be too much.

That's a really good price for backboxes. I've been quoted £450 plus vat at a place up here in Leeds.
Will back boxes alone do the job for me?Found this:

Back boxes and resonator delete.
Sounds awesome.
If all goes to plan, I will do a before video tomorrow, and an after on Friday, so you can see the difference.
Nice! In an ideal world I'd have had an avant, but to be honest I'd discounted getting one altogether until this one came up.

Ok KungFuPanda, its baaaaaaaack!
I haven't done video yet as my wife is busy, but the fitters are putting a video up shortly on their FB.
2 x back boxes fitted, with stock tailpipes retained for the OEM look. Initially they fitted straight through silencers, but took them off as they said it was too much. I had told them I want an improved note, without too much noise in the cabin, hence they kept the resonators, as they are directly under the cabin, and would cause booming while cruising.
Initial impressions are favourable. Sounds nice on tickover, not overly loud, but noticeable theres a V10 under there now. Cruising at low revs, can hardly notice it, but plant the throttle and theres a noticeable difference from stock, which was extremely muted.
Theres a 20m tunnel nearby, on the way there I nailed it through it, and you could really couldn't hear much, but on the way back, big difference!
Having never experienced a Milltek 1st hand, I have nothing to compare it too, and on the video the guy took, it didn't sound deep and loud like the Millteks do, but on his phone, it sounded good.
I think I'd call this a happy medium, OEM looks, and an improved exhaust note without being raspy, or too OTT.
Anyway, leave it up to you to decide, will post a link later.

A clip of mine:

Sounds great in the flesh, the video doesn't capture it well I don't think, lots of background noise.

Just found a video of a car seemingly with just the backboxes done. The original resonators all look present and correct. Nice sound. I could handle it being a little bit louder...

At 5 am on a Sunday morning? Fun night? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHyZySaRvF4
That sounds nice on the video, mind you, they all do!
I'm currently thinking of where I need to "just pop out" to, any excuse to get in it. The novelty has not worn off yet, sure it will when I fill it up twice a week from "just popping out".
