Brand new Golf R broke down today after 12 days ownership
Discussion
This isn't good, bought a brand new MK7 Golf R from VW (personally) nearly 2 weeks ago, put 897 miles on it, had it due in for a 1000 pre-check and the thing broke down today with a very loud engine rattle, complete loss of power and an orange EPC warnign light on the dash...
Got picked up by VW Assistance and just waiting the outcome...
(Gutted because i've never bought a brand new car before and this was a real treat) great car otherwise and VW customer service so far has been good. I wonder if mine is the first MK7 Golf R to fail? Let's see what happens...

Initial diagnostic after they dismantled the engine bottom end is metal fragments (filings) detected so looks like something hasn't been lubricated properly... Hoping for a new engine replacement under warranty.
Wouldn't have a clue if it was remapped prior to coming to me...
I was told to drive it conservatively for the first 1000 miles by keeping under 4000rpm and under 80mph... Which I stuck to religiously... I even followed a warm-up procedure having also currently owning a TVR T350C (2006) model and that engine has never failed...

What does this procedure consist of?
Wait for the oil temperature to get to at least 70 degrees C before going full throttle... Rule of thumb with the Speed 6 was when the oil is below 30 degrees C then you keep the revs below 3000rpm, < 40 degrees C = < 4000rpm etc etc...Car went in on 01/04/2015 (they must have thought it was an April fool - sadly not). Got the car back on the 10/04/2015 so a 10 day turn-around (with a 4 day Easter break) wasn't too bad... Been told there will be no like-for-like replacement nor can I request my money back... VW gave me £300 worth of VW merchandise as a good-will gesture and on top of that I have a product complaint lodged with VW Customer Services which i'm still awaiting the outcome.
I've put over 1300 miles on the new engine already and it's been a dream to drive but now this has still left a nasty taste in my mouth and i'm subsequently thinking about putting it up for sale...

Another person on here had his engine go the other day. He's posted in the PH fleet Golf R thread. His lasted 1400 miles.
Fair enough you are likely to have some issues with cars, but I've now read of numerous complete engine failures already. The record doesn't read very good.
What is your complaint to VW? Is there much else they can do but change the engine?

I'd have pushed them on this. At the very least you should have spoken to Citizens Advice, who can start a complain with Trading Standards on your behalf.
Believe me i've pushed and kicked off and pushed some more but they will not replace it or give me my money back...Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
