Think I fancy going back to a hot hatch form my CLS, something a bit smaller and maybe a little less thirsty so the Golf GTI seems the logical choice given my limited budget of six grand or so.

Anything to watch out for, I know the 2.0 engine had some issues with oil consumption but thinking thats more an Audi problem ?

The Edition 30 seems to be just about in budget, or for not much more.

My other option is a TT, always liked them, would be a 225 Coupe.

Any suggestions ?

The Ed 30's do seem pricey, seems bizarre that they are so much and I dont seem to be able to raise much interest for my CLS at £6500 which cost twice as much when new, but I guess that is V8 barges for you.

Other option would be a TT, yes, I know, I know but I do have a thing for them.

The VAG stuff does hang onto value.

My CLS isnt exactly flying away, down to six grand now for an 08, might have to pay someone to take it away at this rate.

Think I may just bite the bullet and get a decent sized loan and go for a Leon Cupra or similar.

Had a look at a local dealers as they had a MK6, was £12,500 but was a bit ropey, chunks missing from the tyres, loads of dents, interior was scuffed and had been painted on one quarter, but seemingly sanded with some Emery paper first, not a dog but getting there.

Discussed with the wife last night, she isnt keen on Golfs, boring apparently and prefers the TT idea, we have other cars that are more practical so a TT is viable, going to get a loan and get something as new as possible, maybe a TTS Coupe

Are the DSG's best avoided reliability wise ?

Am deferring any change for a year, we are having an extension on the house so it changes my plans somewhat as mainly, need to budget for that and also, it frees my garage up so instead of spending lots (by my standards) on a daily, I think I will get a Lotus Seven type thing, and a smaller daily, which is again where the MK5 GTI comes in, Autocar did a very complimentary piece on them a couple of weeks back.
