TDi start up?

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone else has experienced an occasional problem with starting an Audi TDi? It's an Audi TT TDi roadster ( of which I have to say is superb in every way) but sometimes it wont just click and start and can take several attempts. Not always, just sometimes. any ideas?

I now have a TDi (A5) and it starts ok if that's any help?

Thanks, but when it happens the starter cranks engine for no more than two seconds then it sort of doesn't quite catch and we have to restart again by turning key off then back on and try again, if that makes sense.
