Looking to purchase a s4 avant soon and have found one I like, my dad has gone to have a look at it for me as it's 15 mins from him rather than 2 hours from me and he confirmed the car was in very good condition, unfortunately the salesmen haven't been very helpful since asking about the service history as they've not chased it up as they said they would as it's missing. If I was to contact Audi would they give me any information they have on the vehicle even if I'm not the owner? Thanks

That was my main concern after reading the horror stories about the timing chains, bit gutted that the garage have messed me about and don't seem that bothered about making a sale as I really do like the look of the car

Pictures show it's got Bridgestone potenzas on it all round so I'm assuming they've been changed, they did say anything the mot flags up as a fail or advisory would be taken care of and thanks for the info on the corrosion, I didn't know about that

Checked and the tax is £535 a year 😳, my dad did say the brakes looked abit worn but could sort them out myself easily enough, good spot on the rear bumper, looks like a couple of creases on the top, didn't see them. It comes with a 6 month warranty but didn't say who it was with but it could be increased to a year or two, didn't think about having to return it to them for warranty work. Garage is in Cardiff and I'm in Coventry so abit of a trek if they want it back for any rework needed

My budgets about the same too at the minute, I did find a black one up near Durham that was around £5.5-£6k and had just had the engine rebuilt, can't remember what year it was though!

Yeah, that's a bit more like it price-wise. I mean for £9k, your in C5 RS6 territory!!

I had a 2000 S4 Avant previously

loved it, but big bills were round the corner, and I didn't have the funds to do it, so sold it to a young lad who's brought back to good health.
I've seen a C5 RS6 Avant for just under £7,000! 🙈

Although not a VAG car, when i bought the XFR it didn't have a service history book with it.
Turned out that the previous owner had it and it was passed on to me.

I was able to contact the previous owner via email, from the paperwork that was supplied with the car (previous service).
Also i was able to obtain service information from the Jaguar garages, where the car was serviced.

I'd still approach with caution though and have it checked out thoroughly.
I did think about trying to locate the previous owner, I would of thought the garage would of done that themselves and their attitude has put me off dealing with them unfortunately otherwise I would of been driving it already

Aslong as the bodywork and main drivetrain components were good I don't mind doing the smaller stuff, just don't fancy dropping the engine on the drive to do the chains, One of the first things I usually do is check places out on the Internet for reviews etc, just haven't with the Cardiff place for done reason think it was my heart over ruling my head in this instance

Glad they messed me about now, would love that rs6 but funds won't stretch that far at the minute, still paying off the ex's car for another year and it depresses me to think I could of bought that easily for the price of a new astra!

Well they do recommend you always follow a Drs advice! Think a budget increase maybe in order over the next few months or atleast a side kitty incase of emergencies or timing chains!

Do you use yours as a daily or a second car? I've read a few things about poor leg room in the rear seats, how do you find it?

Had a couple of c5 a6 avants in the past and loved them, thought I would try an a4 this time before deciding on treating myself to an s4, think I'm getting old as just prefer avants to saloons! Don't suppose you wanna sell the Porsche for around £7k? Lol

Well it seems I've got more chance of getting the 997 off of you than the s4! Keep looking st this now, damn you Dr G, just need to get some more funds together!

For clarity I have nothing to do with this dealer but do know the car and previous owner.

"The big one" has just been done and previous owner took good care of it. It sneaks under the old tax rules too.

£4K ouch, I hope you can claim it back! It's always been Porsche's and Lamborghini's since I was a kid, loved the whale tailed 80's 911 targa's, my first boss had one and I think a Porsche will be abit more attainable!
