Alright troops…
I have a '98 golf with the 110 bhp AHF TDI engine, and a '52 plate Octavia 1.8t 4x4. After this winter, I need the 4 wheel drive because I spend a fair bit of time in the north/ north east of Scotland. I also do the biodiesel for cheap miles, so it looks like an engine swap is on the cards.
I want to put the AHF diesel engine into the 4wd Octavia.
I'd expect the block to bolt straight into the engine bay since the block is the same as the 90 bhp diesel found in that model of Octavia. I'd also expect the block to bolt straight onto the gearbox/4wd system because it should be the same as you'd find in a quattro of the same vintage.
What I *don't* know is if there'll be any wiring problems, because I think there was a change of plugs/pins round about this time.
Does anyone know if this'll be a plug+play swap, or would I need to snip and connect each wire to get the engine loom to speak to the car loom?
Also, would it require fitting the engine longitudinally like in the Audi's?
Any advice is much appreciated, because I've never done one of these jobs before!
Ta,
Sith

Thanks for the reply shtu, all advice is appreciated smile
I have the gearbox in the golf (with an electronic diff) that comes with the engine, but I know even less about nailing that onto the 4wd system in the Octavia.
If the engine from the golf and the gearbox in the octavia bolt together, that's a start.
As far as the wiring goes, any ideas or advice as to what the specific problems would be, or what the differences are that prevent plug+play?
I need a 4 wheel drive biobus, that's why I didn't go for a PD engine - they are less tolerant of low quality fuel and I'm still learning how to make the stuff.
Again, thanks for the help
