Possibly a bit premature here, but anyone got or driven the 2018 Polo GTI?
It’s new company car ordering time, & though I’ve got a Golf 1.4 ACT DSG I was most likely going for a 1.5 ACT. ACC is a massive bonus & not sure I’d want to be without it doing 22-25k pa.
Anyway the new Polo GTI + has appeared on the list, a bit left field & I’d not normally consider a small car (though it’s bigger than a MK4 Golf apparently!), so was wondering if anyone’s got/driven one?
Cheers

No I didn't drive it I just liked the look of it and ordered through one of those online drive the deal places. Paid about £3k under list. All modern VW group cars drive pretty much the same if you ask me so I'm sure it will be fine. Limestone grey, DSG, and all the parking assist options to help avoid dents for as long as possible ;D
Thanks for the reply, I'm tempted by the grey too.Given it has the MQB chassis, and the EA888 engine out of the GTI/R but detuned I'm hoping it'll be like a mini Golf!

I've been tempted also. I could afford to buy a new one outright and on paper they look a decent package, agree ACC in particular is a nice feature to have included. But I'm unsure how well they drive compared to their larger MQB siblings with the same engine, and worried I'd miss my TT too much!
I recall in the past that you noted how good ACC was, though I think that was on a GTD, does the TT have it?Generally I wouldn't go smaller than a Golf sized car but given the size of the new Polo I do wonder if it would viable, though I'm a little worried how relaxing it would be on the often long journeys I do. On my current ACT Golf seventh is so long legged that you're doing 2100 at 75mph, it makes for relaxing drive.

Had the Polo GTI on the list as well. IMO sufficient space for what I'd want from a daily, it's really not that small a car anymore. Reasons why I went Golf instead: at time of ordering, higher discounts on the Golf (German market so YMMV) made the prices pretty much identical. That's without speccing a DSG which I did not want anyway. Easy choice, even if I'd actually prefer the slightly smaller car.
Just from reading / specs I think it should be pretty good at what you want from it.
I'd agree for a private purchase there's probably better deals to be had on a Golf. For a company car its higher emissions (than a run of the meal Golf) are offset by its lower price meaning overall BiK is no worse. Just from reading / specs I think it should be pretty good at what you want from it.

Just a thought - at that mileage, does it have an armrest in the centre?
It's one of the things I miss most when I get a courtesy car that size and have to do more than a couple of motorway junctions.
It's a very good point, and yes from the pictures it does have one, though looks quite different to the Golfs, and not sure it's telescopic. It's a must have in my eyes, especially when I'm spending hours sat on motorways/dual carriageways etc, it's why ACC is so great. In my old Mk5 personal Golf I bought a pattern part one which was fantastic, sadly that companies no longer around I believe. It's one of the things I miss most when I get a courtesy car that size and have to do more than a couple of motorway junctions.
Just thought I'd update on this. VW HQ have told me that demo's won't be available 'til at least mid July, which is something of a pain.
And getting that information out of them was a royal pain. Seems odd they'd release tests to the press in December, but not have any punters cars 'til the following July!

Unless you were prepared to wait I can see why!
VW have been pretty useless to be honest, seems earliest any will be available is mid July. For fleet demos they can't tell me if it's July or September or what the current 1 litres will be swapped for! I've have a 48 hr demo later this month in a 1 litre SE - this is to ensure size wise it's OK, assuming it is (should be as it's as big as a MK4) then I'll order.

Mine has landed in the UK! Should have it in a week or so.
Fantastic, be sure to post up pics pleaseJust re-reading your post I see you ordered limestone grey, I did last week too, or more accurately I tried too. Speaking with our company car lease company VW have got almost all cars on a temporary order block with WLTP testing going on, just hope I can still get one.
Had a 1l one on demo last week, plenty big enough inside, and I have to say the 1 litre was plenty fast enough for the day to day, though it sure as hell didn't sound like half of my 911 to my ears!
Now that looks lovely! Thanks for posting.
What interior did you go for, Jacara cloth & the red band across the dash?
I've a light alcantara interior on my current Golf and the brighter interior of the Polo does appeal, I'm not a fan of dark interiors, in winter it feels akin to climbing into a coal bunker!

Yeah cloth and the red dash, it looks really good! Got numerous extras, but didn't bother with voice control or sat nav because if you connect your iPhone it connects to the screen in the dash and works great with Siri and Gogle maps!
That's what I'm going for too, I've ordered the + model so seems pretty heavily specced as it is. Have you got google maps going? I understood that was the one drawback with apple car play that they don't currently allow google maps, which I now rely on for traffic updates. Apparently though IOS 12 will allow both google maps and waze. The nav on my Golf though OK has largely been replaced by google maps, it's pretty useless in traffic.
Keep us up to date on first impressions please.
I’m hoping with the mileage I do it’s a smaller Golf GTI.
Interestingly Car magazines first monthly report on their Arteon 2.0l showed 40.2 MPG over 654 miles, & I think it’s the same Miller cycle engine update on the EA888 fitted, albeit with 187bhp.

Used the map today...and you're right it's Apple maps. Thanks for telling me because I always thought I was using Google maps by clicking the map icon on my iPhone!! Who knew?
I honestly never knew Apple had their own map software. I've had an iPhone since 2007 so that's 10 years of blissful ignorance ruined haha.
Oops, sorry about that!I honestly never knew Apple had their own map software. I've had an iPhone since 2007 so that's 10 years of blissful ignorance ruined haha.
The odd thing is that google maps is loaded onto the iphone as standard too, slightly bizarre.
As mentioned IOS12 will enable google maps & waze, personally I rely on google maps for the traffic updates, makes journeys far less stressful when you can see only +1 min delay!

Its got a Miller cycle engine, so the MPG should surprise everyone.
Yeah, I understand it has. And somebody mentioned new A4 drivers are being impressed too, so I assume it's the same/similar etc.Car magazines first report on their Arteon showed 40mpg for the month, and I'm fairly sure that should be the same as the A4.
Good good.
