Hello,

I am new to the forum and was hoping I may be able to get some opinions/pointers regarding an issue I am having with a car I recently purchased.

The car is a 2016 VW Golf and the issue is:
  • A loud creaking sound when going over speed bumps
  • Mainly happens when going over bumps at slow speed
  • Only happens when first driving each car for the first 1-3 bumps of the day, after that it returns to a normal sound when going over speed bumps
  • It's as if somethign seizing up when the car rests and the first few bumps cause whatever has seized up to come loose and then it is ok again
  • The same sound sometimes happens when turning around a bend, going up a ramp in a car park, or sometimes if stopping suddenly
It is hard to capture the sound on video due to the mic not picking up, but the below video shows the sound happening at the 7 second mark, if you listen with the sound up it can clearly be heard.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Apologies, some further info I should have included in the original message.

This car was purchased from an official VW dealership and I have taken it back to them to investigate, but they have struggled to identify the issue.

As it happens only in some scenarios (after a period of rest, and only on some bumps) I cannot recreate it for them there and then, which is why I have started trying to capture it on video.

Frustratingly the last video I sent them they claimed they could hear nothing, I am hoping this one is clear enough that they cannot deny there is a problem!

They have replaced the front top mounts and shock absorbers, but this has made no difference at all.

Thanks again

It sounds as if it is from the front, that was my initial interpretation of it, but it's hard to say definitively.

Thank you for all the replies, suggestions and links.

I had originally thought it was the front shock absorbers, and became even more certain of this once I saw them listed in the MOT advisories as having misting of oil.

However, they have now replaced the front top mounts and shock absorbers and the creaking has continued.

My concern is they don't seem to be inclined to do a full exploration to find the issue, so I am really keen to try and identify some options of what it could be before taking it back to them.
