Hi All,
Is anyone running a full decat system with a semi sleeved silencer?
To begin with, I had no silencer and all cats in place and then had the precats removed. After a taraka upgrade and mbe installation I felt the Griff needed a bit more noise so I had Clive's decat y fitted. (Lovely looking piece!). So now I had a straight through system.
What I loved was the INCREDIBLE noise under load at higher revs and the gorgeous sound on the overrun with the accompanying pops and bangs. More like a gt40 race car than a road car!! However, I found it far too loud at idle and if using too much throttle at lower revs it sounded too harsh for my liking.
Still have the decat y in place but now with an original silencer. I now find it just a little too quiet at idle and want a little more noise and theatre at higher revs when gunning it.
I'm planning to semi sleeve the perforated pipes in the silencer by clamping solid pipe over some of it and leave the wadding in place. Does this sound like a good idea and anybody know how much to sleeve to strike the right balance?
I realise this all sounds a bit anal but just trying to get the sound bang on. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks for that. I've looked at many YouTube videos but can't work out what sounds best and there's very few that are decat with semi sleeved exhausts.
I'm not keen on cherry bombs so just going to have to try sleeving half the silencer and hope it strikes the right balance! Fingers crossed!

I've watched that one many times, sounds lovely
Heard a Griff with cherry bombs in the flesh before though, wasn't keen on the sound. As has been previously said, each car sounds slightly different and maybe the 4L sounds quite different to the 5L with the cherry bombs fitted.
Hopefully the semi sleeved silencer will give me enough noise and drama at higher revs and not sound agricultural at lower revs. Now I have the mbe fitted the idle is super smooth, even when exhaust was straight through it didn't sound agricultural at tickover, just very, very loud!!

Interesting about what you say about the sports cats Robxjcoupe. I thought you could only get them in the manifolds. Didn't know you could get removable ones at the silencer end.
My car doesn't half stink sometimes, especially when you put the foot down. Fumes can be very strong with the window down even just a few inches. This is despite installing the mod that forces fresh air through the holes underneath the car into the boot rather than sucking in fumes from the exhaust. Still to try relining the boot though.
Where did you get the cats?
