As per title, searching through the forums it seemed that Global Power were a good option but apparently they no longer make them. There seems to be very little recent info, so can anyone recommend a good 1.7KW starter??

I tried one of those cheap units from eBay £60/70 and got to say has been great, no need and a waste of money imo with ‘High torque’ versions of starters, pointless.

A short while ago I was stuck with the same predicament and remember dave (chimpongas) referring to the global one .. I emailed him and he kindly sent me this link to an ebay alternative that he / his friends had used several times .. I ordered said starter and as far as I know it has been absolutely fine on the customers car

A good tip, when replacing the starter, is to wrap it in a 'heat proof cover/blanket'.
I did this many years ago after having a 'hot start' issue. Also stripped, cleaned and modified the starter solenoid (increased the air-gap slightly).
Since then I've never had a 'hot start' issue. Even at Le Mans in 40degC+......

Thanks for the reply’s, I’ve never had any hotstart issues, I’ve noticed lately that the starter solenoid has been getting temperamental and getting progressively worse. As it’s probably the original starter I decided it would be a better option to replace rather than repair.

I fitted a Hi Torque starter motor and a few months of use, the C clip popped off the drive gear. Swapped back to a standard starter motor and all good.

Just replaced the starter on my ‘93 500 this evening. Just went with a standard Bosch reman unit. Here in the US there’s a vendor called FCP Euro and every part they sell carries a lifetime warranty (and it’s legit) so figured I’ll be going for as many Rover bits as I can from them wink

I used one of the high spinning prestolite ones many moons ago. Never had a problem with it.
