Hi all, its been sometime since I posted on here so hello to all those that are new since my last posts! I am still making my re-engineered dashboards for the TVR community. Since designing and making the first for my Griffith 4.3 at the end of its restoration in 2014 I have made quit a few now for the TVR community, including LHD for overseas Griffith owners. Those of you I know will also recall that I recreated the acrylic Indicating Strip and have also recreated the 'black' acrylic lower heater/window switch panel as fitted to the precats, my recreation includes LED backlit symbols with red and blue dots indicating hot/cold!

Back in 2022 I created and made a birds eye maple Precat dash and lower panel. Andy the owner also spoke with me about a matching gear knob in birds eye maple, which after a lot of thought I had made by a friend who's business in fine furniture manufacture. This got me thinking and last whilst visiting a woodturning event with a friend, we jointly purchased a very new product - a sphere turning jig for a wood lathe! This meant both myself and my friend could hand turn precise spheres in wood from around 30mm to about 150mm!

So a few months down the line I have made a mandrel and purchased a collet chuck for the lathe, and am having made some 1/2" UNF inserts. This means I can make bespoke hand made gear knobs in walnut (or other matching hard wood) to go with dashboards, the 1/2" UNF thread should be suitable for both the Land Rover LT77 and Ford T5 gear sticks.

Would these walnut gear knobs be of interest to any one who may have a dashboard I made or just as an accessory? I must add these will be bespoke hand made items and not cheap I am afraid. I will need to use blocks of solid English walnut!

As I am retired now all this stuff is great to make.

All the best, Pete

Hi Chugga, many thanks for info. My Griff (LT77 box) is 1/2” UNF, same as my Classic Defender. 5/16” is really small, never heard of that one. A friends Late 500 with T5 is also 1/2” UNF. I will make sure I get people to check first.
