Hi all,

I am currently rebuilding a 4.3 Griff for a friend luckily a very good friend. However, as it's now in a million bits the thought of upgrading it to big valve spec has been discussed.Does anyone have an idea of the differences between the standard car and the BV.I need to know cam specs, head mods etc. My friend phoned the factory who told him it would take five weeks to dig out the spec on his original car just in case it had anything different or non std on it (not very helpful really)It's of the age where BV bits were included on std cars but I don't know if this was one of them. I have talked to a few different people who should know about BV's, but seem to get a different opinion each time I ask.I'm sure there must be a definitive BV list of mods that I can have a look at, and compare with what I have got.

I just so happens that my own Griff 500 is having a rebuild (managed to drop rusty bits of inlet manifold gasket on to the cam!!ooops)so I have a lot of V8 bits around at the moment. Its interesting to look at both motors and compare the changes that TVR have done to develop the 500.As it happens the shells were lookig a little on the tired side so all has not been lost. Also I'm trying out a new process for alloy castings that has been recomended to me. Its called roller ball burnishing which leaves the metal super shiny but with a good degree of corrosion protection chemically build in. I looked at a Cosworth rocker cover yesterday when I took the bits over to have them done, and I was most impressed.Highly polished finish, which had been left out for a couple of months, handled etc and was still perfect. I will report back when I pick the parts up(cost, quality etc)and let you know my thoughts.

Thanks

Mike.
