Some sad news I'm afraid.

At 4AM yesterday I was woken by a car horn followed by an explosion. I didn't even have to look out of the bedroom window to see the flames it was so bright.

The Police reckon someone was trying to make off with my car (a Griffith, less than a year old, only 5000 miles on the clock) when they failed to start it they decided to torched it.

Needless to say no one saw a thing, but a couple of my neighbours claim to have heard voices outside before the horn started.

As you can imagine, I'm gutted.

Unfortunately, they don't make them any more

I've taken some pictures, if anyone's interested in what's left.

I'm in Isleworth (on the border with Twickenham), apparently a desirable area. I've sold my place though and will be moving to Crowthorne in Berkshire in 5-6 weeks. This will hopefully do something to redress the balance insurance wise!

Notice the precision parking, as far to the left in my space as possible to avoid door contact with my neighbours Jag that incidentally ended up with blisters the size of your fist all over the paint. It was close to blowing up too as he leapt in through the passenger side (he'd driven into his space),let off the handbrake and knocked it into neutral to roll it back and try to save it to some extent. He said the heat inside his car was extreme.

A big thanks to everyone who has posted to this thread, it's great to know there are people out there who view their car in a similar light to myself. It really has lifted my spirits.

I'm really not sure what I'll replace the Griffith with, apparently before my time (I'm 28) when someone had worked hard and had the means to buy nice things people respected that and understood the effort that went into earning such items. The sad fact is, these days, there's a small minority that will never rise from the gutter and do what is required to get there. I may give my insurance situation a chance to recover (although my NCB is protected thankfully) and go for some "hot hatch" effort in the mean time.

I would go for another Griffith, but I feel the process of specifying each and every bit is really what makes the car yours. There does appear to be a few Griffith SE's around, but as they are built to someone else’s taste (some are really nice though!) I'll consider a Tamora.

My insurance policy states that since the car was less than a year old they will replace it with the same model and spec, since that is not going to happen I reckon they should settle for stumping up for the cost of a Tamora, as there would be little or nothing in the difference between what I paid for the Griffith.

The Latest:

As the insurance company has been so slow to react to getting the remains of the car collected some thieving gyppo has made off with the front wheels!

When I phoned them this morning to let them know their front wheels had been nicked the guy said "Don't worry, it won't affect your claim"! F@CK!N right it won't, useless gits! It's only through their incompetence that it is still sat where it is!!!

So, if you are offered a couple of perfect looking 16" wheels with perfect looking SO2's DON'T TOUCH THEM. With a bit of luck they'll end up on some thieving gits Nova or suchlike where they'll fail due to unseen fractures caused by exposure to heat.
