Defender TD5 Problems
Discussion
52' Plate Defender 110 TD5. Five or six times now whilst driving the throttle input has started to cut in and out, then the check engine light will come on and there will be no throttle in put at all regardless of what you do with the pedal.
In the past once the engine has been turned off and restarted it seems fine again, but today this wasn't the case and I had to drive it back on idle (Only backroads and managed to get in to 4th).
Whilst stationary if I move the throttle very slowly I can get the engine to rev up but any pedal movement of any speed will cause the throttle to cut and the engine light to come on.
We have read the codes and among many for the unfitted aircon and the unfitted ABS system there are three of interest:
'Driver demand 1
out of range
fault. Logged'
'Faults detected
with driver
demand. Logged'
'Can error fault
.Currently
Active'
Any ideas?

Do you know whether it has had the throttle cable changed? The cable runs into the underside of the cylinder head, and you can get oil running down the cable and giving all sorts of weirdness. Most have been replaced (I thought it was a safety recall but am not 100% sure) with a redesigned version so this can't happen again.
Do you mean the injector loom? That was changed recently for exactly the problem you described. sunbeam alpine said:
That's what I meant. You could maybe check the connections to the ECU and also the throttle pedal - they don't like getting wet. Maybe try unpluggin the MAF - it will then drop back to safe settings, but should run OK, maybe a bit down on power.
Has the fuel filter been checked/changed? Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key?
Filter was changed very recently, and I think the fuel pump is fine.Has the fuel filter been checked/changed? Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key?
Ill have a look at the connections, thanks.
