Hi All,
I am having a problem with a trip computer that resets every time I start the engine (but not when I press the button frustratingly), a randomly resetting clock and the temperature switching units every time the ignition is turned off and back on again.
I have put this on 3 range rover forums and unfortunately have not had a response. Things like this make me want to sell up and buy a range rover classic (ie an engine with a car wrapped around it) rather than drive a computer.
So.. .my question:
Does anyone know where the "center" of the cars brain is? IE if I replaced the center console radio / sat nav etc would that deal with it, or is it an ECU issue (or perhaps in the dashboard). If we traced back from the temperature reading on the screen, where is the source of the information!?
It sounds very minor.. but I like things to work!

I’d start off with the battery, a dying one can produce all sorts of weirdness, my parents 2006 SC started kicking off with various weird message on startup 2 or 3 years before the battery wouldn’t hold a charge and up until then it even cranked fine, all the issues disappeared with a new one fitted.
Next stage would be checking Earth points, I doubt it’s going to be an ECU issue unless something has got wet
Thank you for the quick reply. In an effort to be brief I probably didn't give as much information as I could so:Next stage would be checking Earth points, I doubt it’s going to be an ECU issue unless something has got wet
This started happening after I changed a single coil on the engine after a failure in devon - cylinder 6 from memory. This was followed up with a new battery last August (though... it did this morning sit at high revs at idle which could mean that it is low - can this happen for any other reason?). I do all the DIY on the car, but apart from the coil nothing has changed to make this happen...
Perhaps I should look for a parasitic drain, though it does hold charge over a week when parked.
