Land Rover Shared Parts
Discussion
So I have been looking at a Disco 1 or early Disco 2 as a bit of an off roader toy after having a go in a mates defender.
I'm new to all this Land Rover stuff but have been told the Disco 1 shares a chassis with the defender and P38 Range Rover? Does the Disco 2 share the same chassis?
So I'm interested to see if anyone has a knowledge of which bits are shared between models, it'd make finding spares second hand a tonne easier, and I'm mostly just wanting to learn a bit more about them for a start.
Oh and if anyone has any for sale, it's got to be a V8, more off road mods the better (but not required). Max budget of about £1800.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, yeah some of the D1s are as old as me! A D2 looks the better choice tbh.
The only reason I'm restricting myself to the V8s is the simple fact that when there's a V8 option for the same money, you've gotta take it! Plus the noise they make is brilliant and they pull pretty well too.
Mod wise I was only thinking very simple for now if I bought a standard one. Like cut the front bumper down so I don't rip it off by accident and like a steering/underbody guard so I don't do any expensive damage haha

Ah see i was looking for LPG ones... Haha
Going to look at one tomorrow, 2002 D2, V8 auto, £1650, 161k, odd scratch and lower front bumper snapped off. Apparently has full service history but I'll believe that when I see it. Leather etc. Looks good.
What's the deal with the diff locks on them? I've heard some have them some don't? Do you need a CDL??

Thanks again for all the responses, just an update.
Today I bought a 2001 Discovery 2, 4.0 V8 auto.
Paid £1600. 113,000 miles, Full service history. Few minor issues (door lock only works with key and not fob, heater only works on full whack) but the main thing is it goes and stops as it should, and sounds brilliant when doing so!
Has the diff locks but not connected, ES spec, got all the gear, cruise, heated leather 6 CD changer etc. On 4 brand new AT tyres. He threw in a snorkel kit for a few quid extra so that'll be going on soon, might become a bit of a project
Wish me luck!
