I'm sure recently posted that they had successfully claimed on warranty for a snapped crank - I'd love to know which warranty company but can't find the post! I believe Warranty Direct cover it but would be great to know if there are options.

Plenty of threads on this on the Disco3 forum and RRS forum, Warranty Direct definitely cover it and I believe so do Motor Easy.

Have a search on those sites and you will get the answer your looking for.

Just put down a deposit on a 2011 HSE 8 speed which has invoices for snapped crank rebuild and all belts etc - done by the dealer in the last couple of months. Will still get a warranty though!

Motoreasy have confirmed to me in writing that it is covered and offered 3 years for just under £1k which seems a decent insurance policy.

What mileage is on your D4 for that £1k warranty? I shall probably buy one eventually.....but I'd have to write it off if the crank turned its self into kit form unless I get a warranty.
85k

Was that £1k per year or for 3 years? I was just running some quotes for my 8 yr old D4 with 58k miles and it was 2.5k for 3 yrs.
It was £1,096 for 3 years. I didn’t buy it online, they called me back a day or two after I did the quote.

I just dig through the detailed t’s and c’s of the motoreasy cover, there’s a sliding scale of contribution to parts depending on age/ mileage. At the top level of you are over 90k miles (or 9 years) then ME will pay all labour but only 50% of parts.

In the case of the crank/ turbo failure that’s likely to be hefty costs.

Those that have cover, is that correct? Or am
I missing something?
My cover is for ZERO contributions from me but you have to ask for them to change it - it made hardly any difference to the quote
Mine was 60% but they have said they will change it to zero today.

Well that was short-lived. Engine went bang today - started ticking, then rattling, then clattering, then stopped. On its way back to dealer now. Don’t think I want the same garage repairing it as last time.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Hope the chaps at motoreasy play ball.
It’s going nowhere near Motoreasy - just want my money back from the dealer who have already had one go at fixing it - don’t want it now.

frown

Will you find another or has this killed the experience for you?
Still want one, just not sure I want this one now hehe

Will speak to Motoreasy tomorrow - if they will put a new engine in it then I might keep it. Just not convinced that it going back to the last place that fixed it is a good plan.

Shirley if the 'repair' was carried out two months ago then its an issue of poor workmanship non ?
I assume the engine was repaired rather than replaced first time round ?

So sorry this has happened - really hope its sorted to your satisfaction

I think if it were me I would just reject the car ..... at the very least a new engine ( still not sure I would keep it )

Does anyone have any figures/numbers of these failures ?
It's back at the original repairer who look to be reputable LR specialist so we shall see.

The trader has sent it to said specialist? So they are not yet accepting a rejection? Or you’ve backed out for now?

Did you phone motoreasy in the end? Selfishly I’d really like to know how they respond, especially so close to policy inception (since we joined within a few days of each other), if mine goes bang tmr I don’t have a trader to return it to. hehe
Trader has taken it to specialist. They have said that if it is diagnosed as crank they will refund me. I did phone Motoreasy - they said to pick up with the dealer initially as it was such a short time since purchase (which is fair) and that I should make sure I give them opportunity to respond. If the dealer declines to resolve it, they will pick up from there. However they did mention “very early in policy”.

Yes, diagnosed as snapped crank. Dealer has agreed full refund which should be in my account this week.

Must be HSE, up to £20k, ideally not black. Black interior only. Don’t like black wheels. smile Must be the 8-speed.

This is sold, but would have been perfect:

What’s the deal with MotorEasy? Will they switch the warranty as a gesture of goodwill or have you sunk the cost?
They said when I took it out that it could be transferred to another vehicle at any time. Will be phoning them Monday!

The registration is virtually the same - 2 letters different at the end - so I hope there wasn’t a batch of chocolate cranks. Dealer was very good, proper Land Rover experts, they have done belts, new battery, loads of odds and ends, so fingers crossed!

Now that the refund is in my bank account, here's the (lightly redacted) invoice for the work done before I bought it. Naive of me perhaps to trust that the crank sourced by the dealer was fit for purpose.

The specialist I bought the second one from said that there are non-genuine cranks available but that you are better off with a used one from a write-off and that they will only ever do a full short engine.

Lesson learnt for me, hopefully documenting it here might help someone else in the future!

One more update in the interests of future folks looking for warranty info - Motoreasy transferred the warranty over to the new vehicle at no cost.
