Self-Assessment Advice UK Expat
Discussion
Good afternoon all,
I wonder if anyone has some information about how to proceed with the below situation.
I am currently living and working in Germany and am thus non-UK tax resident. I left for Germany in June 2021 and at the time submitted a P85 to receive a tax refund on my April 2021 payslip as there was overtax linked to the tax-free allowance.
In February 2022, I received a bonus from my UK employment paid into my UK account via PAYE and thus paid UK tax on that amount. After calculating the required tax due on UK earnings in the period I can see I have overpaid by about £3000.
My understanding is that with non-tax resident status, I cannot submit the usual tax resident self-assessment form.
Does anyone therefore know which process I must go through to claim back the overpaid tax?
Thank you in advance for any insight.
