Anti-virus renewal time

The window has popped up reminding us that the ant-virus is due for renewal, when we bought the pc it came with panda installed, but they now want 60 quid to renew, obviously I don't want to pay this amount, so my question is, which anti-virus do people use, and what should I be paying.

Have downloaded the Microsoft security essentials, now all I have to do is to stop the bloody pop up window telling me the panda version has expired. would I have to remove the entire programme to stop this happening.

Malwarebytes & CC Cleaner alongside is all I need & doesn't impact at all on W7 so far as I can tell.
Avast & AVG both hog resource. Pre-installed Norton is by far the worst I've ever encountered. A pig to remove completely too - it seems to leave a nice unusable chunk in the HD even if you use the removal tool http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Norton-Remov...

Do you find that you need the CC cleaner as well, had this on our last, ( old) pc, but thought on windpws7 it wasn't really needed. ( stand to be corrected though ).
