I've got three computers and wanted to link them all up to t'internet.

Only one was linked up via a Speedtouch USB modem connected to BTInternet. After following various threads, I came up with the perfect solution - netgear DG834G.

Three days ago, I went for the big change over.

All three pc's connected up, so switched on the first pc - the modem set up reasonable easily for an idiot. Went to go online with the second and third pc's - nothing. Played around for a bit but it got late and had to leave it.

The next day, I couldn't get any of the pc's online. In desperation, I even tried doing a new windows XP install on all three, but to no avail.

After spending two days of stripping down pc's and moving them around, I've finally got a PC to connect again.

In doing so, I've completely wrecked my setup, I can't get hold of any of my data from a hard drive that was removed so I could put a new copy of windows on.

I've just lost my number 2 light on the router, I hope this gets posted - I need help.

Anyone in the North East area that can help me, I'll make it worth your while.

My god - I've got two pc's connected now.

I dunno how I've did it, or how long it'll last but I'm quitting now while I'm ahead.

I'll go for pc #3 tomorrow.

Ok, after two days of no internet activity, I'm back on-line.

The two pc's were working fine, if a litle slow on Thursday night, so I packed in for the night and switched everything bar the router off.

Next morning, switched on pc#1, dns error, couldn't connect to the internet.

Switched on pc#2, dns error, couldn't connect to the internet.

Both PC's could see each other in my network places, but both wouldn't connect to the internet.

I've been faffing about again and I don't know how, but I got pc#1 to connect, then pc#2 connected without me doing anything.

Unfortunately, pc#3 is having a dicky fit and won't load up at all so I can't try that yet.

I think I've messed around with the LAN settings in explorer and have currently got it set to automatically detect settings and nothing else ticked. The connection settings is set to never dial a conection.

Hopefully, It'll still work tomorrow but could anyone confirm what my LAN settings should be?

Can you ping each PC from one and another??

Do you have a firewall running like ZoneAlarm? They could block the signal out?

Have you made the network secure and not given the router the MAC address of each PC/Laptop?

Can be lots of little things! (unfortunatly). It may even be a dodgy router.

Can each PC to talk to each other first though.

Ping??? Don't know how to. I have two pc's with literally no other software on than windows xp. I don't know if the network is secure, I just let it go off and determin the settings itself.

The router has "firewall" written all over it, so wasn't too concerned about zonealarm, but will probably d/l it aswell unless anyone thinks it's overkill?

The pc's do talk to each other - I can see each others shared documents.

Go to a command prompt.

Type IPCONFIG on all three computers.

What are the IP addresses?

(I'm thinking that somewhere along the line, NAT is FUBAR)

Ok, on pc#1 I've got:

Ethernet adaptor Network Bridge:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix
IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

and on pc#2 I've got more or less the same but the ip address is 192.168.0.3

I'm connected through a normal telephone type ADSL line.

It also fired up no problem this morning - worked straight away, so I'm hoping that my problems are sorted.

Once again, thanks for all your help, I'm pleased to say everything in the garden is rosy.

All 3 pc's are now working ok.

However, my house might go up in smoke in the next few hours. I drilled a hole through a plaster board wall to pass a cable through into the next bedroom and I discovered the wall is stuffed with newspaper.

Slight smell of burning paper, squirted water in with a squeezy bottle just incase. Erm....999 anyone?

No flames yet

Wireless router will be fully utilised when the new laptop arrives. (Assuming I have any money left when the Cerb is repaired )
