Hi,

My Virgin contract is coming up for renewal and to be fair I have been quite happy with their service.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get a good renewal deal?

I have been offered a reduction of £54 a month to £48 a month. For this I retain the existing Tivo box and not get the shiny new V6 box although I am not that bothered about it to be honest.

Thanks.

Well - it's bit of a coincidence but since I started the thread a week ago by my broadband speed has plummeted.

I was paying for 100mbps and getting 45-50mpbs. Now I am getting 15-20mbps but often as low as 2-3mpbs!!

I called them to log a fault and was told that it is due to a high take up of Virgin in the area and as such the box outside is overloaded. It will be resolved no sooner than the end of March!! They will offer me a discount of a tenner or so a month until it is resolved.

In terms of renewal the best they can offer is 45 a month for the same deal, down from 54. I have to just wait and see if I get a phone call.Blast.

Aren't you paying for "up to" 100?
Yes. Up to 100mbs I would expect more than 50mpbs otherwise I would be on their up to 50mbps tariff. Not the 7mbps I was receiving yesterday.

Has anyone received any counter offers? For those people not renewing with Virgin who are you going for?

The best new deals look to be Virgin but I am not allowed to have those!

Well, 4 days after giving notice to cancel, I've just had a phonecall and have signed up for another 12 months.

- 150mbps (which we may or may not be able to get!)
-Lower TV package. We will get fewer channels but they said that 86% of our viewing is on freeview channels anyway. Not concerned about this at all.
- new router.
- same phone deal

£35 a month. I'm sure some have got better deals but for the small amount of hassle I am happy with ~£20 a month saving. It has been worth the effort.

I can't believe its been two years since I started this thread. Once again my virgin contract is up for renewal.

Current contract is 100mb broadband, 'mix' tv bundle, sky sports (inc f1), weekend calls.

Current cost is £40 per month.

Offered cost so far has gone up to £68 per month.

I've asked for the contract to be cancelled today so in theory I should hopefully receive a call probably Tuesday evening with a better off? I'm not sure I will this time as they sounded a bit different over the phone.

Six calls to Virgin today. First five cut off. Sixth on hold for approx 40 mins before being put through. The lady I spoke to informed me that there was no way I could get a better deal for less than £68 with any other provider - she knew all the offers. She also told me I would lose my phone number if I asked for it to be cancelled and that it can't be retained by the new provider. Okay.....

Fingers crossed.

And..my turn again.

It's been 5 years since I started this thread and it's still a pain.

My contract is again due to expire;
M200
Mix Tv
Landline I don't want.
£58 a month.

New offer
M500 (an upgrade I don't want)
Max TX (an upgrade I don't want)
Landline inc free calls (an upgrade i don't want)
£75 a month (so a 30% increase in 18 months)

Guy I spoke to was patronising and obnoxious. Laughing down the phone and refusing to provide his name, cutting me off etc. Logged a complaint for what it's worth. Shockingly poor service. Notice to cancel given so I'll look at alternatives but they now my options are limited here. I'm sick of dealing with these idiots.

Considering the introductory offer was £85 Inc O2, I'm now £73 plus £10 unlimited everything with Tesco mobile, my total is now down to £83 in comparison, albeit I'm 350mb now instead of 1000mb. A good trade off for sure.
That seems pretty good, you've done well.

I've still not had a successful call from retentions, and given that the contract ends on Saturday, it seems I'm not going to. I'd still really like to know what all those multiple failed calls were about... Am I supposed to ring them back in desperation or something ?
Did you get a reply?

It's my turn again.

I just checked and I started this thread back in 2017!!!

I've just spent 2hrs on the phone to Virgin and the outcome was as follows.

Current package m200, mix tx and phone (not used). I took the package out on £57 which they increased to £69!

Call 1 - offered £58 but cut off.
Call 2 - offered £70 and then £67 and then £58. I've given notice to cancel to see what happens.

Virgin Media have no integrity when the pricing is so fluid and dependent on haggling and hassle to the customer.

What sort of prices have people been getting? Was £58 any good?

Do they discount to remove the landline? The last time I renewed the price would have gone up!!

Edit: And they told me all prices are increasing on the 28th Feb!!

My post is a couple of pages back in December - after instructing the cancellation and waiting for the call - I also mentioned on the call that FTTP connections were newly available in the area. At least that's how I remember it - it's been a few weeks biggrin I'd say £58 is rich if you have the same TV package.

> £36pcm(from £37) for M500 (from M350), Mixit, Phone with w/e chatter.

Looking at my bill - it looks like the package is £84pcm with me receiving 3 lots of discounts totalling £48.
Well, they called and I agreed to £39. I do find it frustrating that you have to play this game. Hopefully cityfibre will be in place before the next renewal.
