Transferring MP4 from Samsung S5 to Desktop

Can't do it.

When I plug my phone into the PC it just charges and nothing is recognised between them. I can't see any of the phone files on the desktop and so cannot transfer anything across.

I have googled it and searched my phone settings once plugged in but nothing. In the past I have plugged it in just to charge and had the media storage thing appear on the screen and never needed it. Now that I do need it, whenever I plug my phone in nothing happens. I am therefore having to upload videos to youtube via wifi from my phone ( 60 to 90 mins ) and then re download them to my PC afterwards which takes hours of effort.

Any ideas?

I have now changed the cable and it has recognised the device. However

As I start to transfer the MP4 file across, it comes up with an error message saying unable to do so "due to thread exit or transfer device" - whatever the hell that is. And now depsite showing a folder on my PC for the phone, when you open it the contents are all empty.

Why is EVERYTHING so fking difficult. All I am trying to do is upload a 4 minute MP4 from my phone and it is literally impossible.
