It will be interesting to hear people's impressions - there might be some negatives....

I look forward to hearing about it. smile

Also how restoring from a back up goes - my 6 to my 7 didn't work terribly well.

Turned out that Carphone Warehouse was a good shout. They have supplied my new SIM free X (from which I write) and the Apple store is still showing a 10 day wait. I’ve cancelled the order.

The X is good so far. It needed an iOS update to 11.1 and is performing well. Seems quick and slick.

It’s amazing that Apple can’t even stock their own shops and website.
I agree. I’m not sure why CPW would have SIM free stock but not Apple.

Early days but are you gonna run it without a case / screen protector? Or are you not fussed about using it until such time as you get those things?
I bought an Apple leather folio case for it - which is ok. I ran my 7 with the Apple battery pack which was excellent - I don't know if Apple will create a battery pack for the X so I've ordered a generic one from Amazon but delivery is not until the end of the month as I assume it ships from China.

Never bothered with a screen protector - just careful where I put it. Back pocket or jacket pocket with nothing else.

I am not convinced the battery will last a whole day.... hopefully there will be some decent battery cases available.

I was reading this morning that the X is the most fragile iPhone - and the most expensive to repair. So it definitely needs a case - which is a shame when it's a good looking thing.

The lack of a home button is soon forgotten, I'm only one day in and find the swipes (and FaceID) very intuitive. FaceID is a good feature for me as I would often struggle to get the phone to open on hot days.

Well, my Apple 13-20th order is "Preparing for Dispatch" and can no longer be cancelled so the one I bought from CPW is going back to the shop today.
Frustrating.... I think it was you who put me on to CPW and it feels vaguely unfair that I was able to cancel my order and am now using the X from CPW.

I bought the expensive folio case from Apple. It's good quality and the phone shuts and wakes when you close the cover... I will definitely need a battery case at some point.

Re the battery, how long are you getting out of it? I've got the iPhone 7 with battery case and find it invaluable.
Yes, I had the Apple battery case on my 7 too - it was very good.

I haven't run out of battery on the X yet, but I don't think it will last 12 hours - which is my normal day away from home.

12 hours?! Are you on it all day? If not, that is pretty pathetic.
As I mentioned, I haven't run out of battery yet - and yes, I am a heavy user.

I will know on Friday this week when I have a 12 hour day in London.

A pal of mine was over from California last week - and irritated that I had an X because his isn't arriving until mid December.

There seems to be very choppy supply.

It's worth waiting for, very pleased with mine.

I had a play with one of these today and thought that it was pretty underwhelming and not a massive step up from the 7+.
It is and it isn't.... I swapped my 7 for an X. In many ways the 7 was the perfect phone for me - waterproof, decent camera, lots of memory. My main uses are email, calendar, about 5 apps, bit of browsing and the phone - so I hardly needed a replacement.

FaceID works better for me than the button (I found the button success rate to be 8/10 dropping to 4/10 when hot) and the additional screen space where the button would normally be feels a bonus. The camera seems an improvement. The 'passive' element of FaceID is good when logging into bank accounts or websites - it probably only saves a fraction of a second, but it feels seamless and easy.

It does appear to have a better battery life (probably not better than your 7+), but, as a wild guess, maybe 20 - 25% better than the 7. Hard to tell comparing a new phone to a year old one.

The biggest downside is the fear of dropping it when they're so costly to repair.

So it could be said to be marginal when the 7 (and 8) are so competent.

I just had a look and their isn't that much difference - I suppose after 2 years with the 6s it makes a difference.

iPhone 6s - 138.3 x 67.1 - 143g
iPhone X - 143.6 x 70.9 - 174g
31g is the weight of a soul. Fact.

Any consensus on what a good case is for these? Happy to spend on something that will genuinely protect it...
I bought the Apple folio case. It's pretty good. The phone switches off when it closes, and on when it's opened. Obviously doesn't have to be the Apple case to do that. smile

I have put an Anker screen protector on it (the first phone where I've used a screen protector). Firstly because the screen seems hideously expensive to replace and secondly because Anker have an alignment system for the protector that ensures a perfect and near invisible fit.

I'm going to try some other cases, but the folio one seems pretty good.

I've ordered a battery case too - which is shipping from China, so due in the next month.

The only reason for the price of the iPhone X is that it's precisely the price Apple can get away with charging. Look at all the people buying it, it's not a barrier. I honestly believe they could change £2,000 for it and people would still be able to do the mental gymnastics they need to do to justify it.
Not the only reason.

According to a few sources, it costs $548 to build the X against the 7's $248. Apple are making a 32% margin on the X against 62% on the 7. A 32% margin for the R&D costs is pretty reasonable.

Yes it is an expensive phone - but it is supposedly the most expensive phone to build.

You won't miss the home button imo. It took very little time for me to forget that it isn't there.

The thing I've found most jarring is that Control Centre is now dragged down from the top right, rather than anywhere from the bottom.
It's now very odd to go back to a button - I used someone's 7 to look for something and I found it strangely old fashioned! smile

I am finding call quality is not brilliant on the X.... sounding a bit muffled much of the time.

I have turned off phone noise cancellation. Anyone else?

Anyone experiencing screen burn issues? Apparently Apple will not compensate for this.
Screen burn in what way?
It's been reported that the OLED screen (all OLED screens) suffer from burn in. So if, for example, you're watching SKY news for hours on end at a high brightness, the screen will develop 'artefacts' - or permanent ghosting of where the static SKY logo might have been.

If you Google OLED screen burn, there's a ton of info. All OLED screens have this potential issue, Samsung, LG, Google, Apple etc
