New Razr misses the point

The new Motorola Razr details came out yesterday. I was partly excited. Partly because there is no way I'm paying the estimated price, but I'm really keen for a clam shell smartphone. No more cases / screen protectors. We can go back to casually tossing our phones on the table, or in your pocket without fear of cracking or scratching the massive screen. A much better use of folding screens than Samsung's take on it (phone becomes tablet) , imho.

And then I see the final product. They've put an extra screen on the outside..... :-(((

i dont think a lot of people were throwing their phones around, just because they had a clamshell design
No but you know what I mean. We now all have to have screen protectors / rubberised cases, wallet cases. Anything to stop them breaking. Whereas in the past they was much less screen, or, a clamshell.

I was really looking forward to a design that enclosed the screen.

The Razr did indeed have a miniscule screen on the front - I forgot that.

I have fond memories of my various Razr's over the years, I like this and if I wasn't already in bed with Apple I'd seriously consider it.

Will be interesting to see how long the screen lasts.
Eg after 6 months, if it goes faulty, see if they blame the user for folding too many times
etc etc

I don't have a screen protector or a rubberised case. I never have had, and I've never damaged one of my phones.

My Razr's hinge broke after about six months.
You are clearly very careful and the exception to the norm.

The majority of people have at least a screen protector. Those that don't seem to be iphone users who just live with a cracked screen.

I can't make a phone screen last a month with out using a case, and pretty much everyone I know is in the same boat. In fact a friend tried "going naked" a while back as he really wanted the phone to look and feel as it was designed. Lasted around 2 months before he cracked the screen.

I park on gravel. One drop face down and it's game over. I've done it too :-(

I'm definitely now warming to the external screen idea. Forgot all about the original's external screen. Still way too expensive though

I've never had a screen protector and I don't see the point of having a screen protector. A good case with raised edges around screen is enough.
That's me. Although I use a flip case with my credit cards inside. Apparently that's what people "my age" (50) do....
