Can any laptop experts help with this please?

This white band has appeared on the side of my 10yr olds laptop screen.
She says she hasn't dropped it, but who knows?
It's an old one, so not the end of the world if it's had it but if it's a simple fix then it will save getting another one.

She's dropped it. That black smudge in the bottom right hand corner is also a good sign it's been dropped and/or the lid has been closed on something.

Afraid it's time for a new laptop, no repair will be economical unless it's a very common laptop!
