Any thoughts?
Old Packard Bell desk top, I thought I'd leave it in the garage and use it for diagnostics.
Not started it for around 4 years but I think it was intermittent beforehand.
Once it has shut down it doesn't want to boot, the power light going amber and nothing happens (should go blue)
I've unplugged a few unnecessary bits from the board, card reader cd drive etc, not made any difference.
On the occasion it boots fine, all seems to work fine then it shuts off.

Yes first job was a good vac.
Happy to change the psu as long as its that.
I don't think it will stay on long enough to add another programme.

Just cleaned the heat sink past off and given it a good blow job with the air line. wink
It then ran for15 mins by far the longest since trying to bring it back to life.
Hopefully when the new paste arrives it will sort it.

Check your Motherboard and BIOS support it, but I 'upgraded' my old AM2 with an AMD CPU Phenom X4-9500 2.2GHz Socket AM2+ for a massive £5.95 from eBay last October! Managed to get hold of some cheap DDR2 memory, so now running at 7Gb (out of a possible max 8Gb). Also fitted with a cheap 128Gb SSD and it works reasonably well on Win 10!
Now that’s just teasing, where do I start to look to upgrade?

Heat paste arrived and carefully applied.
The heat sink itself is spotless
Now shuts down at 10 mins.
I now have another cpu but haven't tried it yet, wanted to get it running first.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 5200+ - 2.7GHz Dual-Core (ADO5200IAA5DO)
I assume it will need a bios update before installing but I don't think it will run long enough to do.
Could it do any harm just trying it?
Not sure what else to try now.

Started it in bios set up this morning, didn't time it but it shut down again around 8 mins.
I did take a couple of pics.

4 sockets full, 2x 1gb & 2 x 512mb, it was in that configuration long before playing up.

Tried again today (as it doesn't always boot).
only replaced the 2 x 1gb simms.
Started in bios.
It ran for 10 mins before shuting off, temps normal, cpu 21c max, system 32c.
voltages all looked stable.
I'll see if I can pick up a power supply before bining it.

Another odd thing is my hard drive docking station seems not to want to play ball,
not sure if that's a win 10 issue though.

I have tried the remove Mem sticks one at a time etc, no change.
The new cpu won’t run without a bios update, and I’m only trying to
get it running to keep in the garage, I’ve an emerald ecu in the Caterham
I’d like to plug into. (And the have google YouTube etc while in the garage)

Time to give up I think, changed the power supply and the fault is still there.
Thanks for all the suggestions though.

I don't think it will run long enough to install anything, I'd like to do a bios update
but it would shut down halfway through.
