Making an image transparent

Anyone able to assist me please?

I'm putting an email together where the background is grey. Within the email there will be a picture of a PC which has a white background around it. I need to know how to make this white background transparent so that all I see is the PC on the grey email background (if you know what I'm trying to say).

I've seen it done before but can't remember how to do it. I have Paint, Paintshop Illustrator & Photoshop at my disposal.

Cheers, I just played around with it and after Magic Wanding the background and then deleting it I saved the main image as transparent and it worked.
