I recently bought a Mercedes E63, 65 plate 14k miles (car was advertised on here).

Long story short I have had the car couple of weeks and driven it myself around 400 miles just under 2 weeks ago I was going on a routine journey when the car broke down. The car started okay, however when I was driving the car it felt sluggish and alittle jerkey it felt like the power of the car was not going through the engine.

Couple of miles into my journey I was waiting at the traffic lights when the car despite being on lost power, I would rev the car and nothing would happen. It was showing a couple of errors on the line of mercedes blind spot inoperative, presafe functions limited and there was another one which I cant remember but it was similiar to what I have listed.

As the car is still in warranty I called out Mercedes breakdown after waiting over 3 and a half hours an RAC technician came out plugged his laptop and the car was showing a couple of P2725 error message which suggested an issue with the pressure control solenodi electrial module. There was nothing he could do to resolve the issue and the car had to be towed to my local Mercedes garage.

The local Mercedes garge checked out the car, initial response I got was the control module might need replacing, I was then told this did not work. They then sent the readings from the gearbox to Germany who advised the gearbox valve body would need replacing. I was told the old gearbox will be sent back to Germany for them to investigate what caused the issue because apparently its not clear.

I am still waiting for the new gearbox to be fiitted. I have made a complaint with Mercedes as I am not happy with the service I have recieved, I am hoping they can compensate by extending the warranty of the car or offer couple of a free services. Can anybody give any advice on how I can push for more?

I have done a google search and havent seen similiar issues on a E63, has anybody else had a similiar issue or is this a one off?

(apologies for the long post)

It took over 6 hours to get recovered, and the warranty for the new gearbox wil end when car warranty finishes next year.

Surely this will effect the value of the car when I come to sell it.

Replacing a gearbox is no small job and though its been done by Mercedes, I have no doubt it will effect the resale value of the car. Who would want to buy an E63 a powerful car it is with little or no remaining warranty from Mercedes depending on when I decide to sell it?

Speaking to my local garage I was advised if I was paying for this myself it would cost over £5000!!

So nobody has come across any gearbox issues with their E63?

I had a similar problem on my 2013 E63 on two occasions, both at motorway roundabouts where the car accelerated normally from a standstill/picked up from low speed only to completely cut power. The engine stayed on and after a few very frightening seconds, the power came back but I lost faith in the car after that.

The main dealer said they’d never heard of the problem but there are one or two other members on here who had the same issue with their E63s too. The gearbox is the weak link with the car, as it is with many AMGs from my experience.
What did you do? Did the issue get resolved or did you just sell on the car?

I get my car back on Wednesday, the gear box has been replaced and the warranty lasts till the cars warranty expires which is Feb next year.

Mercedes will not extend the warranty, I will need to get the costs of extended warranty closer to when it runs out.

I have been offered £35 RAC vouchers and a free B1 service ( which costs £550), so happy days!!!

Mine was on a two year agreement from new so I handed the car back a bit early and switched brands. The dealer had the car a few times and could never find any faults, so I increasingly lost confidence in the car.
to be honest i have lost a little bit of confidence in the car and brand as this was my first Mercedes, I am gona keep the for a few months and see how it goes and then may trade in for an Audi RS6/RS7

I am not a fan of the new shape C, E or S classes they are too similiar and the interior, dashboard etc is awful.

I had a CLK63 before my E63 and was let down so many times by electronics, I got fed up and went for the E63...only to swap one set of problems for another!

I went for a Panamera GTS subsequently (which had more than its fair share of problems but never actually let me down or put me at risk) and now have a Panamera Turbo S. If you’re not put off by the looks, the Panamera are a great alternative to the more mainstream Audi, BMW, Mercury offerings. I tend to cover 20k miles during ownership over two years.
I did look at the Panamera but my heart was set on the E63, is your Panamera a 5 or 4 seater?

I am suprised I thought a change of gearbox would put off someone from buying a car, it would put me off anyway.

What I was told by Mercedes is that if I had bought the car from them they would have potenitally offered me more, but as I had bought the car privately not much more they can do then replace the gearbox under the warranty and offer a free B1 service.

For anybody interested this is what Mercedes said regarding what the issue was:
"The failure of the transmission was brought about due to a leaf securing bracket on the solenoid valve which broke which was causing the transmission to slip."
