Just phoned to book in the first service (A) on the GLC350d(had it new at the end of August last year)...£367 for an oil change! yikes I'm shocked at how much more expensive it is compared to BMW/Audi. I think I'll be going for another BMW next then!

It's not even a performance model...god knows how much they charge for a proper AMG version. Short service intervals/mileage on Mercedes as well because its only covered 14500miles.

I was offered that and I foolishly said no, I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive though. At least I know now so if I did go for another Merc it is something I'd take out I think.

You can still take one out - I've just taken it out on my 4yr old E Class for the first time for 2 services, after realising it's cheaper than paying for 2 individually by about 30%.
Thanks and I didn't realise you could do that.

Mercedes servicing has always been too expensive.
I was shocked at the time when I had an Audi how expensive the servicing was in comparison to BMW. Mercedes is a complete joke though, don't get me wrong I like the GLC but I'm not sure I like it enough over a BMW to keep paying the silly servicing costs.

Its tarnished my view of the brand somewhat, and I can't see me having another Mercedes now...I think they must be a brand for the older and very wealthy Lady/Gent who don't mind paying it.

After having several Bmw's I just fancied a change...I should have stuck to what I was familiar with I reckon now.

How about finding a local Merc Indy with STAR and the digital service system?

absolutely zero impact to warranty.

Is there a reason why you'd use a Franchised Stealer ?
Just the warranty really, I didn't realise that using an Indy still upheld the warranty cheers. I think I'll get this service out of the way and then get rid of the car later in the year(take my usual bath on it!!).

I can't really see what Mercedes offer with their cars over BMW to justify such expensive servicing costs to be fair. I really like the luxury/comfort of the Merc, but BMW offer a much better drive and they're much cheaper to run.

£367 for a first service is not so much for such an expensive car. How much have you spent on road tax, insurance and fuel in the same time period?
That's a very valid point in fairness, I think it's a principal thing with how they can charge so much more than their rival manufacturers that's annoying me.

I was out washing it earlier and I do think its a lovely car, but I'm still struggling to get my head around how Merc can charge £367 to change oil...I suppose I need to be thankful I don't have to service a GLC 63 though!! biggrin

It not that valid. Why should changing the oil in an expensive car cost more than changing the oil in a less expensive car? Quantity of oil excepted!
Yes I agree with that, I suppose when you factor in the cost of fuel/insurance/tax...the service costs aren't really that bad. I think what's doing me is that my 640d was much cheaper to change the oil on/service, yet it's a more expensive car(new).

The expensive servicing costs don't seem to be putting the punters off Mercedes at the moment though...because they're selling more cars than BMW!

Right, when i got my E Class it was on 13,000 miles, the service was done by the dealership at 12,870, this was an A Service, 15,5000 mile services intervals. The prices for the individual services were as follows:
B Type + Brake Fluid £610.00 inc
A Type £352.62 inc
B Type + Brake Fluid, air and fuel filter £828.72 inc

Service care plan for 3 services = £1260 inc, also could have done in monthly payments.

The pad wear light has just come on, and whilst this is not covered by the service pack to give you an idea of prices this is what i have been quoted:
Front Pads - £193.44
Front Pads & Discs - £448.63
Rear Pads - £207.04
Rear Pads & Discs - £459.63

Car is a 2016 E220 SE Estate.

Hope this helps.
Thanks very much for that and I really appreciate you going to the trouble of doing that. smile

I think I need to get some overtime in!!hehe Pretty eye watering figures for sure. The service care plan makes it very good value.

I don't mind paying a fair price for a service to be supplied, in whatever business that might be. I do, however, object to being taken for a ride.

As more groups have created local monopolies over franchise work and as they've been pushing service plans, ie trying to tie people in to 2,3 or 4-year contracts, so their normal over-the-counter service costs have escalated. A shame really, as it creates ill feeling.
I couldn't agree more thumbup I'm new to the brand and this has left a bad taste in my mouth. With hindsight I wished I'd looked into the servicing costs now before buying(thought they'd be similar to BMW/Audi).

I can afford the servicing costs, but it has angered me that Mercedes has such a front and they that think its acceptable to overcharge so much. This is very likely to be my first and last Merc, a shame really because I like the car.

It is apparently normal to have pads and discs all round at just under 39k, I explained this was not my experience with BMW or Audi. As we all know, general rule 2 sets of pads to 1 set of discs. Oh well done now.
I must admit I was really impressed with the BMW 640d I had, and that did 85k miles and I only changed the rear pads. It was still on the original front pads/discs/rear discs when sold, I thought that was hugely impressive for something that weighed 1800kg.

Mercedes do seem to want to change everything early doors it seems from your experience.

Just out of interest I put a random GLC C43 - KM66CEV (found it in a road test report) - into Mercedes MyService using my local dealer, MB Chester. 30,000 miles. B service came out at....£367.

I think you might have been had.
I tried doing that just now and it's saying I have to phone up for a quote. It could be well worth me phoning another dealer out of interest then. The car was booked in for Thursday but I've pushed it back to next month now, so I still have some wriggle room.

Mines only the smokey diesel version, and that one you've put in is the much quicker petrol AMG version so it does seem expensive for mine.

Took the GLC for its second service(b) yesterday as its now done 35k miles. Oil change and dust filter change was £424 which pretty much mirrored the cost of the first service(I was expecting it to be more expensive).

I was asked if I wanted the adblue filling and I said no I do it myself, and I'm guessing someone had already filled it anyway presuming I'd pay for it. They didn't charge me for it, so I came away happy because they charge £60 to fill it.

The lady said she didn't think it needed servicing at first because it was only serviced in May...until I mentioned the mileage. Mercedes do have short mileage intervals versus Bmw/Audi. I'm pleased the customer service is good though and the coffee is nice because I will be a frequent visitor.

Sheepshanks thanks for that experience share. smile Mercedes oil changes are 15500 miles versus 19000 miles for Bmw/Audi so not a huge difference as you say. Plus I did creep over a little bit both times.

I will keep an eye out regards the brake fluid because it is out of sync. I've also been impressed with how well the tyres are wearing and there's still a fair bit of wear left in them.

The GLC went for its third service in just under two years today. Its on 52k miles now and it was the service A but a big one because of the mileage.

It had the oil and filter changed, air filter and fuel filter changed, another dust filter and the brake fluid changed for £804!! So the first service wasn't that expensive after all!! hehe

The thing I have certainly learnt from this experience is that the Mercedes monthly service plan is definitely worth taking out(I didn't take it out). However I have been very impressed with the service that I've received each time I've been in though.

On a side note I've been extremely impressed with the all season tyres that are on it and the rears are still the originals at 52k miles and I only replaced the fronts last week. I've never got those numbers out of any tyre before.

I've been on the monthly service plan for the last 2 services and I find that works better for me.

The last service was an expensive one though for me(£1,100), because it needed new front discs and pads(I couldn't grumble though because they did last 97k miles!). The water pump had also let go and it was leaking coolant, so I needed a new water pump too.

Overall though I'm still really happy with the car, it's paid for now and I can still see me keeping it a while(had it nearly 4.5 years now). I still love how easy and relaxing it is to drive.

I wish that the GLC was still offered with a 6 cylinder diesel engine, and if it was I think that I might have swapped it for another one. I reckon that the GLE is probably a bit too big for my needs, but I could get the newer 6 cylinder diesel engine in that though.

That is a decent saving going to a specialist instead of a main dealer for sure. Thanks.
