I could never own one of these. Ever.

Growing up the hairdressers round the corner had one of these.

CRX yes. MR2 no.
What an original and refreshing point of view. Thanks for posting.

CRX !!!, and you call the MR2 a hairdressers car !

CRX=Naff front drive pseudo sports car for posers

At least the MR2 drove like a sports car.

Loved it. Pretty well rot free, but had to go to make way for a bigger car.
I would have another in a heartbeat.
Best SOTW yet I think.

Great little cars, fantastic handling and a fabulous engine too. All hail the 4A-GE! Here's a shot of my 'early' one:

Should he? It's quite an amazing engine even today in my opinion. Just shows that 25 years hasn't been such a massive progress in this respect.

I'd echo that. Name me one modern equivalent engine that revs that high (reliably) and sounds that good.

2ZZ-FE (Revs even higher and makes 190bhp off the bat)
K20/24

You don't need to have all those revs if they aint producing anything.

My dig at the 4age was tongue in cheek but there are definitely other engine options out there which make this thing into a modern sports car (pace wise) and keeps the Mk1 on the map.
