Wait, and that is meant to make these places MORE appealing?

I didn't think there was a way the feel of the places could be worse but huge bits of plastic would do it! I've just worked out what they're mostly decorated like, bowling alleys!

Your rather sad comments suggest that, like some others, you may have never actually been in a Wetherspoons......

I've been in four, the most recent of which I think last year.

Correct, I'd probably avoid going to a pub if I were, but you do you.

Maybe support a local business instead, probably a better thing to do if you can.

He seems easily annoyed, just because others can be fairly positive about something he detests.

Honestly, give it a rest. You don't like Wetherspoons, the "awful" people (code word for working class) that frequent them, and you detest covid measures.

We get it. It's almost the tenth page and you've been saying the same thing on every single one of them. Frequent another thread - you've got your point across.

The Knights Templar in Chancery Lane/Carey St is fabulous, but so are all of the Central London Spoons. Try the Hamilton Hall (Liverpool St Station, Bishopsgate) and the Crosse Keys (Gracechurch St).

Prices are a tad higher, but still an absolute steal for Central London.
The Liberty Bounds near Tower of London is ok but gets lots of tourists

Forgot that one, another great building. Must be the smarter tourists. Pay £20 for a coffee and a sandwich in the cafes around the Tower down by the Gateway Pier, or grab unlimited coffee, and lovely panini (another thing that they do very well), and some chips for a fiver in the spoons.

Whereas Okgo described these people as "awful", I'd go with "working class". Though, let's be honest - that is the same thing here, and he's showing his true colours......
I'm lucky enough to live in a rather nice west London suburb and the demographic at my local spoons during the day is mainly affluent retired (which I guess I would fall into). We love a bargain, us moribund folk (I'm 59). Early mornings you do get a lot or workmen in hoovering up the mahoosive breakfasts before starting work. In the evenings it's a younger crowd, as for some reason in this neck of the woods it's become the place for the kids of the affluent retired to meet up. Savvy parents, savvy kids I guess.

Main thing is, it's always busy.

The French resturant next door is great for food, but just tried to Google it and appears it is permantly closed..

I wouldn't piss on that prize if he was on fire.

Probably sums you up far better than him.

Whilst I agree with your assessment of the individual - I'm also a pragmatist. Does paying more, to a person you don't know seem like a better option ?

Unless you are clear on the ownership and management structure of the alternative - who cares ?

Given you don't know the first thing about me, other than what I wrote in this post, I think that's a bit of a stretch. But whatever.

Do those that hate Tim Martin (and I'm no fan of his Brexit stance and some of his alleged employment practices) give him any credit for breathing new life into some of our most iconic buildings, that would otherwise have been left derelict and fallen into disrepair without him.

In truth, isn't he like many businessmen, despicable sometimes, and great at others. How does he compare to Mike Ashley? Does he and his company pay their fair share of tax, and if so, do those who don't go into Weatherspoons use tax avoiders like Starbucks or Amazon?

I have got it on my phone. It's very useful because it tells you where the Wetherspoons pubs are!

Haven't been to 'spoons for a good long time used to enjoy a Sunday lunch and a few beers, why they served awful yorkies I don't know, but otherwise, okay the potatoes and veg weren't great either but sport was on the telly and the company was good, £20 to get fed and well watered, churlish to criticise says me. smile
