If I had to guess, I'd suggest yer man "so called" didn't work Monday-Friday in Germany, but felt it would have been a wizard wheeze to go on a business trip over there in a BMW-badged Rolls Royce every now and again.

That's pretty cool - an electric car would be a good choice in event of apocalypse as you can generate electricity through so many different means. It's also very quiet, so easier to be subtle.
