The high-end compact camera hierarchy has a new champion: all hail the Fujifilm X20.
I think you''ll find the daddy is the Sony RX 1.

This is a little upstart in comparison. Lovely but, nonetheless, it is but a munchkin compared to a Lion. smile

I have taken the opportunity to buy an X10 now that the X20 has been announced.
Very good price now from the Fujifilm shop for a refurbished camera.
Just done the same, had it for a week now and it's a perfect thing to use and hold. Slightly baffling menu to my simple head but I'll get used to it. It's vintage looks have been to much resist to add cheesy period trinkets - no doubt they'll be hated in a month or two and removed, but so far the leather strap, brass soft release and lens hood all seem to be suiting it fine and cost very little.

I'm off to a week in Applecross so will have the perfect opportunity to use it, and drive the Bealach na Ba wink

So I took it to the pub to read the manual (It's hard work being a musician, I can tell you), and messed about with some low light and macro.

First impression - It's VERY well built. It'll take a few days to work out if it's as good as they say. I have already changed the sharpness (down) as the default is too severe IMHO.

Here's the low light pub shot:

...and here's 100% crop - straight out of the camera (quite impressive for a compact in auto ISO mode I thought):

ETA: /\ this was before I 'turned the sharpness down'

oh...and it has a 'super macro' feature - down to 1" (these are the tiny dafs, not the big ones... from about 2")

I'll take it out tomorrow and do some landscape stuff... see what it can do.

Sorry I was just being a tt as I'm sure you realised! It's a great looking bit of kit and the results appear excellent - my only concern would be that it seems only moderately pocketable (compared to the likes of the S95 which is easily pocketable) ?

Yep I knew you were just ragging me.

It's def not a jeans pocket camera... but a jacket one.

Pistonheads. Size matters.

Not great, but better than nout. It's very like the tiny minox I had in the 80s. Gives most of the frame... Sadly not all. But at least with this you know you can crop out edges, and you do get f and speed info in the eyepiece.

What is it that seperates the X20 from the X100s? The most significant things I can discern is that the X20 lacks the APS-C sized sensor & full manual controlls of the X100s.

X100(S) is a fixed focal length (23mm), X10/20 are 4x optical zoom (28-112mm).
I think the X100(S) also has a ND filter in-built, but don't quote me.

Head over to http://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/digital-cameras... and do an in-depth comparison.
