I've not bought any clothes for ages but I just treated myself to this:

If you want a flying jacket. Go with the real deal.
https://www.flying-jacket.com/jackets/

It will be way too warm to wear 99% of the time
Am I the only one who thinks that jacket could benefit from being dragged behind a car for a while? Too shiny, too perfect.

I don't want to denigrate the chap's new jacket, but to my eye it has a number of challenges. The zip crookedness being one.

It doesn't look distressed, it just looks like it hasn't been put together correctly - which is probably the truth of the matter. Generally, well-used zipped clothes, if they are of decent, don't end up with a wonky zip.

I'd wear it with a pair of Air Jordan mid/high or a pair of Air Force 1 mid/high.

With nicely fitted jeans, it would work, imo.
Would you be wearing your Blue Steel expression or do you have a different look reserved for brown leather Ralph Lauren Navy jackets?
Eh?
A reference to Zoolander.
Ah. Haven't seen it.

Hence the post went over my head.

Unless you fly a B52, they can create a bit of an image problem.

Cheers guys for all the feedback. I love a leather jacket. Those 'proper flying jackets' are thick to get any wear I was close to buying a Simmons Bilt one.

I could make that RL leather work.

Selvedge jeans with Red Wing boots or decent trainers and a simple old school sweatshirt or t-shirt.

Might even try it with a pair of these from RL

Regarding North Face gear: Not been above 2c here in the Peak District for over a week, and yesterday didn't rise above freezing. I have ski gear, hiking gear and winter wear, but my go to for serious cold is a heavily quilted down coat from NF. Serious warmth, so those vagrants/dealers knew a good thing when they found it. biggrin

IMO, the cargo trousers combined with the jacket is trying a bit too hard.

I mean, it could be pulled off, but I recokon the safer bet is well fitted jeans and high top trainers.

Yeah, you'd look too military with combats/cargos.

Wiff of Walt about it.

I know a couple of people have mentioned Woolrich and they're spot on. I've got the Arctic Parka and the Sierra Supreme, both very warm and regularly wear them both when stood outside watching football for 2 hours+. They get taken off when we go in the pub though, too warm for that!

Why the selvedge jeans criterion?

I know currently fashionable, but people do know that it's just a self-finished edge to the cloth, don't they?

My mum has a Woolrich coat and she says it is probably the best coat she has ever had. Very well made and very warm. Like you say, too warm for wearing in anything other than cold outdoor temperatures.

She loves it. I've admired them myself on a few occations.

I was looking for another Barbour, but there doesn't seem to be much worth looking at, at the mo.

Sticking with my StormForce for now.

I got the previous model of this Norrona Finnskogen jacket second hand, but it arrived looking like it had never been worn. The RRP of the current model is £459, but I paid £100, so I’m pretty happy. It looks less “military green” in real life and because it’s designed as a hunting jacket, it doesn’t make very much noise at all. It’s Gore Tex lined, so it’s waterproof and it has plenty of ventilation too, with decent pit zips. It’s uninsulated, but as I’m a fat knacker, that doesn’t matter. As long as I’m dry, I’m happy. It’s so far been faultless for dog walking, as I’m usually out before sunrise at this time of year.

Been a shame to see north face decline into its chav status.
People have been saying this for years . Who cares, I've bought a tri cimate jacket lasted 10 years with heavy use, bought the latest one last year. They keep you warm and dry, and 250 quid very good value. I did buy a nuptse but could never wear it as too hot.

On the subject of North Face, I've never owned any of it but ordered this yesterday because I managed to get it for £116 as opposed to nearly £200.

I just liked the square quilting and the colour.
